G2A Attenuates Propionibacterium acnes Induction of Inflammatory Cytokines in Human Monocytes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background:Acne vulgaris is a disease of the pilosebaceous unit characterized by increased sebum production, hyperkeratinization, and immune responses to Propionibacterium acnes (PA).

Suppressors of cytokine signaling in tuberculosis

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2017
Tuberculosis (TB), a global disease mainly infected by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, remains leading public health problem worldwide. Suppressors of cytokine signaling (SOCSs) play important roles in the protection against microbial infection. However, the relationship between members of the SOCS family and tuberculosis infection remains unclear.

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Fibrinolysis protease receptors promote activation of astrocytes to express pro-inflammatory cytokines. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BACKGROUND:Astrocytes contribute to the crosstalk that generates chronic neuro-inflammation in neurological diseases; however, compared with microglia, astrocytes respond to a more limited continuum of innate immune system stimulants.

Leukotrienes provide an NFAT-dependent signal that synergizes with IL-33 to activate ILC2s. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) and type 2 helper T cells (Th2 cells) are the primary source of interleukin 5 (IL-5) and IL-13 during type 2 (allergic) inflammation in the lung.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Multi-Modal Biomarker Profiling of Tumor Microenvironment and Genomic Alterations to Enhance Immunotherapy Stratification in Melanoma

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology
Tumor mutational burden (TMB) and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are key biomarkers for predicting immunotherapy responses in cutaneous melanoma. The discordance between brisk TIL morphology and absent cytokine signals complicates immune profiling.

How to rewire the host cell: A home improvement guide for intracellular bacteria. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Intracellular bacterial pathogens have developed versatile strategies to generate niches inside the eukaryotic cells that allow them to survive and proliferate.

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

Nuclear localization of Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling (SOCS)-1 regulates local immunity in the lung

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2016
Suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1) is a negative feedback inhibitor of cytoplasmic Janus kinase (JAK) and signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) signaling.
