Biochemical and Immunological Properties of Cytokines Conjugated to Dendritic Polymers

Biomedical Microdevices, 2004
Here we describe a post-translational modification of SC-63032, a variant of the species restricted, multi-lineage hematopoeitic factor human interleukin-3 (hIL-3). We have made two new dendritic polymer (polyamidoamine or PAMAM dendrimers, generation 5)-SC-63032 bioconjugates.

Angiogenesis meets immunology: Cytokine gene therapy of cancer

Molecular Aspects of Medicine, 2007
Delivery of cytokine genes at the tumor site in pre-clinical models has been shown to recruit host inflammatory cells followed by inhibition of tumor growth. This local effect is often accompanied by systemic protection mediated by the immune system, mainly by CD8(+) T and NK cells.

New immunological approaches and cytokine targetsin asthma and allergy

European Respiratory Journal, 2000
The aims of current asthma treatment are to suppress airway inflammation and control symptoms, and corticosteroids maintain a commanding position in this role. Steroids effectively suppress inflammation in the majority of patients but have little impact on the natural history of this disease.

[The influence of craniotomy on cytokines and immunological function].

No to shinkei = Brain and nerve, 2004
The purpose of the study is to elucidate the effects of a craniotomy on patients regarding the cytokines and immunological function. TNF-alpha, IL-6, the CD4/8 ratio, cortisol, and WBC were all measured perioperatively in 29 patients. No serum TNF-alpha was detectable in any patients. The IL-6 level, cortisol and neutrophils all showed an increase with

The immunology of sepsis and meningitis--cytokine biology.

Scandinavian journal of infectious diseases. Supplementum, 1991
Although antibiotics have reduced mortality, the most recent clinical trials in sepsis and meningitis have been directed at the host inflammatory response in an attempt to improve outcome. Endotoxin, cell wall constituents and toxins are potent inducers of small molecular weight proteins (cytokines) from a variety of host cells.

Secretion of cytokines and modulation of function of immunologically competent cells

Medical Hypotheses, 1999
Cytokines and their effects are widely studied in immunology, but the cellular mechanisms responsible for producing these substances are not yet described or proven. Antigen presenting cells (APCs), macrophages and dendritic cells are suitable subjects for such a study.

The Role of Cytokines in the Action of Immunological Adjuvants

1997
Three classes of adjuvants - mineral oil emulsions, aluminium salts, and saponin - have long been used to augment immune responses in vaccination. Each has its own advantages and limitations, and during the last decade new adjuvants have been developed.
