Chronic hepatic cytolysis revealing a pheochromocytoma

Clinics and Research in Hepatology and Gastroenterology, 2012
We report here the first case of chronic cytolysis that led to the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma, in a 48-year-old woman with a recent onset of hypertension. The etiological research ruled out the common causes of raised transaminase levels, and led to the discovery of a left adrenal pheochromocytoma. The sustained normalization of liver function tests

Immune cytolysis of mouse thymic lymphocytes

Transplantation, 1963
Summary Immune cytolysis was carried out by mixing a suspension of mouse thymic lymphocytes containing 97 to 99% viable cells with complement and various dilutions of rabbit antiserum or isoantiserum. Cellular integrity was determined after incubation for 2 hr at 37° C, by use of vital staining.

Extracellular cytolysis by leukaemic blast cells

British Journal of Haematology, 1984
Summary Leukaemic blast cells from 20 patients with acute leukaemia were examined for their capacity to mediate cytotoxicity against ox red blood cells in the presence of phorbol myristate acetate (PMA), a system widely employed as an in vitro model of tissue damage by metabolically activated mature phagocytes.

Measurement of Tumor Cytolysis by Macrophages

Current Protocols in Immunology, 2011
AbstractThis unit describes two different protocols for the measurement of tumor cytolysis by macrophages. Traditionally, cytotoxicity assays have relied on the use of radioactive isotopes. In Basic Protocol 1, cytotoxic activity is measured by the release into the culture supernatant of a radioisotope that had been incorporated by the target cell and ...

Cytolysis in normal and complicated pregnancy

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1973
Abstract Cytolysis of vaginal cells in normal and complicated pregnancies was graded as mild, moderate, or marked. The series studied comprised 1,439 normal pregnancies, 287 cases of threatened abortion, 51 cases of hyperemesis gravidarum, 258 cases of toxemia, 213 cases of postmaturity, and 94 cases of diabetes.

Effects of Cortisol on Immune Cytolysis

Pathobiology, 1974
High concentrations of cortisol effectivelyabolish the lysis of sheep red cells induced by cytotoxic antibody and complement in vitro. This effect lies in the ability of the steroid molecules to pack closely among the aliphalic chains of the phospholipid monolayers present in cell membranes, thereby preventing the net uptake of ions ...

Cytolysis of Eosinophils in Nasal Secretions

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 2003
It is still unknown how eosinophils degranulate in nasal mucus. Currently, cytolysis is being reevaluated as the mode of degranulation of eosinophils in allergic nasal mucosa. To examine whether eosinophils migrating to the nasal mucus degranulate by cytolysis, we sampled nasal mucus from 9 patients with nasal allergy and observed it under electron ...

Mechanisms of Macrophage-Mediated Tumor Cytolysis

1982
Important roles have been proposed for both cellular (1,2) and humoral (3–5) immunity in the complex host reaction to neoplastic growth. Killing of syngeneic tumor cells, at least in vitro, can be mediated by many different host cell types either alone or in combination with humoral factors.

T Lymphocyte-Mediated Cytolysis — A Comprehensive Theory I. The Mechanism of CTL-Mediated Cytolysis

1982
The mechanism(s) by which cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) cause lethal and irreversible damage to target cells (TC) has been the subject of considerable research during the past 10–15 years. A number of mechanisms have been proposed, examined, and either have been disproved or have generally not been pursued for lack of convincing experimental evidence in
