ABSTRACTCytomegalovirus (CMV), the largest of the herpesviruses, causes a wide range of clinical syndromes, from asymptomatic infection to severe disease in immunocompromised hosts. Laboratory methods for diagnosis include molecular testing, antigenemia, culture, serology, and histopathology.

Two novel human cytomegalovirus NK cell evasion functions target MICA for lysosomal degradation [PDF]
NKG2D plays a major role in controlling immune responses through the regulation of natural killer (NK) cells, αβ and γδ T-cell function. This activating receptor recognizes eight distinct ligands (the MHC Class I polypeptide-related sequences (MIC) A ...

Ganciclovir penetrates into the cerebrospinal fluid of an infant with congenital cytomegalovirus infection [PDF]
Currently, there is no evidence whether ganciclovir, or its oral prodrug valganciclovir, penetrates into the cerebrospinal fluid of human infants treated for congenital cytomegalovirus infection.

Impact of sequence variation in the ul128 locus on production of human cytomegalovirus in fibroblast and epithelial cells [PDF]
The human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) virion envelope contains a complex consisting of glycoproteins gH and gL plus proteins encoded by the UL128 locus (UL128L): pUL128, pUL130, and pUL131A.

Microneutralization of Cytomegalovirus [PDF]
A simple microneutralization test for cytomegalovirus (CMV) is presented. Using a laboratory adapted stock virus, definite results were obtained after 10 days. All patients with primary CMV infection showed an antibody rise and/or seroconversion; however, neutralizing antibody appeared only seven weeks after the onset of clinical symptoms.

Estimation of the worldwide seroprevalence of cytomegalovirus : a systematic review and meta-analysis [PDF]
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection does not usually produce symptoms when it causes primary infection, reinfection, or reactivation because these three types of infection are all controlled by the normal immune system.

Expression of the murine cytomegalovirus glycoprotein H by recombinant vaccinia virus [PDF]
The sequence of the gene encoding glycoprotein H (gH) of murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) strain Smith was determined and compared with the sequence of the gH of MCMV strain K181. Transcriptional analysis showed that gH is encoded by a large mRNA of 5.0 kb,
