Does limited virucidal activity of biocides include duck hepatitis B virucidal action? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: There is agreement that the infectivity assay with the duck hepatitis B virus (DHBV) is a suitable surrogate test to validate disinfectants for hepatitis B virucidal activity.

Corneal Fibropapilloma in Loggerhead Turtles (Caretta caretta) in Mediterranean Sea

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 2, March 2025.
GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT Papillomavirus by PCR and spirorchid‐like parasite eggs were detected in the ocular tumour‐like mass evaluated as fibropapilloma. In immunohistochemistry, Ki‐67, p16, pan‐cytokeratin, vimentin and herpesvirus showed positive staining, whereas p53 showed negative. This study provides the first research data on spirorchid‐like parasite

Zika virus promotes CCN1 expression via the CaMKIIα-CREB pathway in astrocytes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Zika virus (ZIKV) infection in the human central nervous system (CNS) causes Guillain-Barre syndrome, cerebellum deformity, and other diseases. Astrocytes are immune response cells in the CNS and an important component of the blood-brain barrier ...

Tumor Necrosis Factor‐Alpha Inhibits the Replication of Patient‐Derived Archetype BK Polyomavirus While Activating Rearranged Strains

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 97, Issue 2, February 2025.
ABSTRACT To date, no drugs are approved for BK polyomavirus (BKPyV) reactivation, a major cause of nephropathy after kidney transplantation. Recently, tumor necrosis factor‐α (TNF‐α) blockade has been proposed as a promising therapy, however, the effect of TNF‐α on the clinically most common archetype (ww) BKPyV remained unclear.

Switching to Tenofovir Therapy Versus Continuation of Entecavir for Patients With Hepatitis B Virus Infection: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesJGH Open, Volume 8, Issue 11, November 2024.
ABSTRACT Background Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection causes liver disease, including hepatocellular carcinoma. Controlling viral activity is crucial to reducing complications. Tenofovir may offer benefits over entecavir, but it is unclear if switching from entecavir to tenofovir improves outcomes.

XBB.1.16‐RBD‐based trimeric protein vaccine can effectively inhibit XBB.1.16‐included XBB subvariant infection

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 5, Issue 9, September 2024.
The RBDXBB.1.16‐HR vaccine we formulated could elite high titers of receptor‐binding domain (RBD)‐specific binding antibodies, neutralizing antibodies against variants pseudovirus, and cellular immune responses. In addition, a heterologous RBDXBB.1.16‐HR vaccine could improve both RBD‐specific binding antibodies and neutralizing antibodies induced by ...

Human‐induced pluripotent stem cell‐derived hepatocyte platform in modeling of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection

open access: yesJGH Open, Volume 8, Issue 7, July 2024.
We differentiated iPSCs to functional hepatocytes (iHeps) and inoculated them with SARS‐CoV‐2 wild type. We then determine the viral load in supernatant and angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) in cells, and found that the viral load was more than 1010 copies/mL and there was upregulation of ACE2 expression at 72 h after infection.

[Use of cross-absorbed sera in neutralization tests with viral titration by the cytopathogenic effect].

open access: yesVoprosy virusologii, 1975
A new method for intratypic antigenic differentiation of poliovirus strains has been developed. The method is based on the use of cross-absorbed sera in neutralization tests where virus is titrated by the cytopathic effect. Qualitative differences between the antigenic structure of vaccine and "wild" strains as well as between some "wild" strains of ...

Quercetin alleviates inflammation induced by porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus in MARC‐145 cells through the regulation of arachidonic acid and glutamine metabolism

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 10, Issue 4, July 2024.
PRRSV stimulation resulted in hydrolysis of glycerophospholipids to release linoleic acid and arachidonic acid, activating the NF‐κB pathway and inducing inflammation. After intervention with quercetin, it reduced the production of linoleic acid and arachidonic acid, increased glutamine content, blocked NF‐κB pathway activation, and reduced the levels ...
