Cytologic, Clinicopathologic, and Histologic Findings in a Dog with a Gallbladder Neuroendocrine Carcinoma and Multiple Endocrinopathies

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 10‐year‐old spayed female Shih Tzu was evaluated for a gallbladder mass incidentally identified during a diagnostic workup for hyperadrenocorticism and persistent hypercalcemia. Diagnostic imaging revealed a vascularized intraluminal gallbladder mass, and cytologic examination showed cohesive clusters of epithelial cells with distinct ...

Feasibility of routine clinical liquid‐based cytology for lung cancer compact panel testing

open access: yesCancer Cytopathology, Volume 134, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Background The Lung Cancer Compact Panel (cPANEL) is a recently approved highly sensitive multiplex gene panel in Japan that supports both DNA‐ and RNA‐based next‐generation sequencing. Although cytological specimens are acceptable for cPANEL, unfixed cell pellets or dedicated preservation tubes are typically recommended.

The Diagnostic Value of Immunohistochemistry and Biomarkers in the Diagnosis of Mesothelioma in Pleural/Peritoneal Effusions

open access: yesDiagnostic Cytopathology, Volume 54, Issue 9, Page 631-636, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Mesothelioma is a rare tumor that arises from the serosal cells lining the serous cavities, most commonly the pleura followed by the peritoneum. Presenting symptoms include pleuritic pain and bloody effusions that recur. Although cytologic analysis cannot determine the mesothelial subtype or in situ from invasive disease, the ...

Evaluation of Systemic Inflammatory Markers in Predicting Malignancy in Parotid Gland Tumors

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 136, Issue 9, Page 3783-3790, September 2026.
Preoperative systemic inflammatory indices may assist in distinguishing benign from malignant parotid tumors. In this cohort of 259 patients undergoing parotidectomy, malignant tumors were associated with higher neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (PLR) values, as well as larger tumor size and older age.

Artificial intelligence‐enabled cytopathological interpretation of fluorescence microscopy images via a multimodal large language model

open access: yesQuantitative Biology, Volume 14, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Quantitative analysis of fluorescence microscopy images remains a significant challenge in cytopathological assessments, as subjective interpretation and inter‐observer variability hinder reproducibility and standardization of classifications. In this study, an artificial intelligence‐assisted analytical framework utilizing a multimodal large ...

Cervical Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma Initially Detected on Cytology: Diagnostic Pitfalls and Clues

open access: yesCytopathology, Volume 37, Issue 5, Page 555-559, September 2026.
This case describes the initial detection of cervical small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma on conventional endometrial and cervicovaginal liquid‐based cytology. Given its rarity and high aggressiveness, early recognition and rapid, intensive treatment are crucial for improving patient outcomes.
