We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Cytoplasm and cytoplasm-nucleus interactions affect agronomic traits in japonica rice
Some sources of cytoplasm have been favored in rice breeding for unknown reasons. To study cytoplasmic effects on agronomic traits, five core japonica parents in Oryza sativa, Xinan 175, Reimei, Keqing No. 3, Todorokiwase, and Toride No.

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Until the last decade or so, many intracellular signaling pathways were viewed as processes in which second messengers diffused uniformly through a well-mixed milieu of the cell’s cytoplasm to reach their targets. Although it was recognized that the cell’s interior was compartmentalized, this compartmentalization was believed to be largely defined by ...

The bacterial cytoplasm has glass-like properties and is fluidized by metabolic activity
SUMMARY The physical nature of the bacterial cytoplasm is poorly understood even though it determines cytoplasmic dynamics and hence cellular physiology and behavior.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Automated nucleus and cytoplasm segmentation of overlapping cervical cells
Data source: Supplementary information, http://github.com/luzhi/miccai2013.gitIn this paper we describe an algorithm for accurately segmenting the individual cytoplasm and nuclei from a clump of overlapping cervical cells.
