The cytosol activity of thymidine phosphorylase in endometrial cancer
Background Thymidine phosphorylase (TP) is identical with platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor (PD-ECGF) which promotes angiogenesis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cytosol activity of TP in tumor samples from patients with ...

Targeting of the prion protein to the cytosol: mechanisms and consequences
Prion diseases are characterized by the conformational transition of the cellular prion protein (PrPC) into an aberrant protein conformer, designated scrapie-prion protein (PrPSc).

Three-dimensional architecture and biogenesis of membrane structures associated with hepatitis C virus replication [PDF]
All positive strand RNA viruses are known to replicate their genomes in close association with intracellular membranes. In case of the hepatitis C virus (HCV), a member of the family Flaviviridae, infected cells contain accumulations of vesicles forming ...

TB, a conventional cell viability dye, acts as both a fluorescence modulator (quenching GFP fluorescence upon protein binding and recovering it upon release) and a photosensitizer that triggers endosomal escape via photochemical internalization (PCI) under 590 nm light.

Estrogen Binding Protein Activity in Morris Hepatoma 7777 Compared With Normal Rat Liver [PDF]
Estrogen binding protein activities were determined in the cytosol from adult male Buffalo rat liver and Morris hepatoma 7777. Estrogen receptors were prepared using the protamine sulfate precipitation technique of Chamness.

Delivery of Pleckstrin‐Homology Domains Suppresses PI3K/Akt Signaling and Breast Cancer Metastasis
Current therapies curb tumor growth but not metastasis. Obscurin, a giant metastasis suppressor lost in breast cancer, restrains PI3K/Akt signaling but is impractical to restore. We deploy a mini‐obscurin, comprising the obscurin‐PH‐domain, which sequesters PI3K‐p85, potently suppressing invasion and metastasis.

PKCα and CPI-17 expression and spatial-temporal distribution with activation in pig stomach antrum and fundus [PDF]
Smooth muscle contraction is a complicated process coordinated by contractile, regulatory and cytoskeletal proteins. The force generation depends on the phosphorylation of Myosin Regulatory Light Chain (MLC20). Myosin Light Chain Kinase (MLCK) and Myosin

Cell-Penetrating Peptides, Electroporation, and Drug Delivery
Certain short polycations, such as TAT and oligoarginine, rapidly pass through the plasma membranes of mammalian cells by a mechanism called transduction, as well as by endocytosis and macropinocytosis.

Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy Reveals Efficient Cytosolic Delivery of Protein Cargo by Cell-Permeant Miniature Proteins. [PDF]
New methods for delivering proteins into the cytosol of mammalian cells are being reported at a rapid pace. Differentiating between these methods in a quantitative manner is difficult, however, as most assays for evaluating cytosolic protein delivery are

The crowded cytosol is a special environment where weak interactions can be important. Here many macromolecules are close to the limits of their solubility, a condition conducive to weak, but specific, entropy-driven molecular interactions. In addition to being under evolutionary constraint to preserve the functions of their own products, genes ...
