This chapter explains that cytosol is a gel-like, semifluid material that surrounds the membranous organelles and particles of the cytoplasm. It describes the complex composition of the cytosol, considering it as a compartment where many metabolic reactions, protein synthesis and signal transduction pathways, and muscle contractile events occur.
