Antiplasmodial Activity and Pharmacokinetic Profiling of Cryptolepine and 2,7‐Dibromocryptolepine With a View to Informing the Design of Novel Antimalarial Cryptolepine Analogues

open access: yesDrug Development Research, Volume 87, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The roots of the climbing shrub Cryptolepis sanguinolenta are traditionally used in West Africa for the treatment of malaria. The principal constituent, cryptolepine (1), has been shown to have antimalarial activity but there are concerns regarding its toxicity on account of its DNA‐intercalating property.

Physico‐Nutritional Profiling and Assessment of Proteins as Well as Soluble and Insoluble Phenolic Acids in Gamma Irradiated Wheat Grains Through SWATH‐MS and HPLC Analysis and Their Functionality

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
Gamma irradiation (Dmin 650 Gy) proved effective in controlling insect pest infestations in stored wheat grains which otherwise undergo extensive losses during storage. SWATH‐MS based proteomics affirmed integrity of major storage proteins including prolamines and increased extractability of phenolics (soluble free & conjugated) was observed in ...

Optimization of Hot and Cold‐Water Extractions of Cistus salviifolius L. for Enhanced Phenolic Content and Antimicrobial Efficacy

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 13, 6 April 2026.
This study optimized cold and hot water extractions for maximizing phenolic content and antibacterial activity against S. aureus and P. aeruginosa. Hot water yielded higher total phenolics and were more effective against P. aeruginosa. Conversely, cold water enriched specific ellagitannins (punicalagin and cistusin), showing potent, targeted ...
