Effects of Low Calorie Sweetener D‐psicose on Lipid Metabolism in Rats

This study aimed to investigate the effect of new generation low calorie sweetener D‐psicose on body weight management and lipid metabolism of rats compared with other traditional dietary carbohydrates. Five groups of Wistar rats were administrated with diets containing 5% of glucose, fructose, cellulose and D‐psicose for 4 weeks, respectively.

Di-d-psicose anhydride (DPA), derived from functional rare saccharide as d-psicose, is investigated for its strong chelating ability. Methylglyoxal (MGO), an important precursor of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), promotes obesity, and causes complications such as diabetic nephropathy.
