FISH–Flow Cytometry Reveals Microbiome-Wide Changes in Post-Translational Modification and Altered Microbial Abundance Among Children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

open access: yesPathogens
Metaproteomic analysis of microbiome post-translation modifications (PTMm) is challenging, and little is known about the effects of inflammation on the bacterial PTM landscape in IBD. Here, we adapted and optimised fluorescence in situ hybridisation–flow

A Mechanical Planar Chiral Rotaxane Induces Single‐Handed Helicity in a Twisted Perylene Diimide

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A mechanical planar chiral rotaxane (Rmp) is used to induce single‐handed helical chirality (M) in a perylene diimide chromophore, resulting in persistent circular dichroism (CD) and circularly polarised luminescence (CPL). ABSTRACT The twisting of chromophores such as perylene diimides (PDIs) into helical structures affords chiroptical properties from

Reduction of podocytes number in late diabetic alloxan nephropathy: prevention by glycemic control Redução do número de podócitos na fase tardia da nefropatia diabética aloxânica: prevenção pelo controle glicêmico

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2007
PURPOSE: To determine podocyte number and GBM thickness in diabetic rats either under glycemic control or without glycemic control at 6 and 12 months after diabetes induction.

Antimicrobial peptide LL-37 increases rhinovirus-induced interferon β expression in human airway epithelial cells through a Ca2+-dependent mechanism

open access: yesBiochemistry and Biophysics Reports
The human cathelicidin LL-37 is active against both bacteria and viruses, but it also shows immunomodulatory properties. Here, we assess the impact of LL-37 on viral signaling in human airway epithelial BEAS-2B cells infected with the respiratory ...

Do Sojourn Effects on Personality Trait Changes Last? A Five‐Year Longitudinal Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Personality, EarlyView., 2020
Abstract This study examined sojourners' long‐term personality trait changes over five years, extending previous research on immediate sojourn effects. A sample of German students (N = 1095) was surveyed thrice (T1–T3) over the course of an academic year.

De novo synthesis of short‐chain aldehydes and hydrocarbons secreted by the brown marmorated stink bug Halyomorpha halys

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys, mainly secretes 4‐oxo‐(E)‐2‐hexenal, (E)‐2‐decenal, dodecane and tridecane, a mixture representative of that released by many heteropterans. We demonstrated that H. halys can synthesise these secretory components de novo using dietary glucose.
