Comprehensive Evaluation of the Anti‐Inflammatory Activity of Ling‐Zhi‐8 (LZ‐8) In Vitro and a Rheumatoid Arthritis Animal Model

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
LZ‐8 reduced IL‐6 and COX‐2 in LPS‐stimulated macrophages, partly by inhibiting MyD88‐mediated JNK‐MAPK signaling. LZ‐8 reduced inflammation and swelling in the ankle and palm of the feet in the animal model. High‐dose LZ‐8 reduced synovial hyperplasia, and all doses protected articular cartilage.

Positional scanning and computational modeling reveal determinants of legumain transpeptidase activity

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Legumain is a lysosomal cysteine protease that plays a central role in antigen processing for MHC class II presentation. Beyond its canonical proteolytic activity, legumain can also function as a peptide ligase or transpeptidase. This non‐canonical activity becomes particularly relevant under pathophysiological conditions such as cancer and ...

Non‐Covalent Interactions Enable Hierarchical Self‐Assembly in TeTrazine‐Bearing Systems: From Soft Matter to Mesogens

open access: yesChemSystemsChem, Volume 8, Issue 3, May 2026.
This study focuses on the supramolecular self‐assembly of a newly developed family of compounds featuring s‐tetrazine. In particular, we highlight structure‐property relations and how gelation and mesogenic properties can be directed as a consequence of different side chains introduced in the system.

Remodeling of Hepatic Glucose Metabolism in Response to Early Weaning in Piglets

open access: yesAnimals
This study aimed to investigate the dynamic changes in hepatic glucose metabolism in response to early weaning. A total of 60 piglets were randomly selected and weaned at 21 days old. Six piglets were slaughtered on the weaning day (d0) and at 1 (d1), 4 (

Design‐based implementation research for digitally enabled education reform: Teacher professional development in Tanzania

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Technology, Volume 57, Issue 3, Page 715-745, May 2026.
Abstract Design‐based implementation research (DBIR) offers a promising approach for refining and theorising the implementation and scale‐up of education interventions. However, integrating technology into national education reforms in resource‐constrained contexts adds complexity, involving multiple government bodies, implementers and researchers with

Upregulation of sphingomyelin and ABCA8 in response to TDP‐43 pathology in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis brain

open access: yesBrain Pathology, Volume 36, Issue 3, May 2026.
Increases in sphingomyelin in response to TDP‐43 pathology in the disease‐affected motor cortex of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) brain. Abstract Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a rapidly progressing neurodegenerative disease characterized by the degeneration of motor neurons and the presence of TAR DNA‐binding protein 43 (TDP‐43 ...

Breaking the growth-defense trade-off: engineering viral-host interfaces for antiviral crop breeding

open access: yesPhytopathology Research
Plant viruses cause substantial damage to crops worldwide, yet conventional breeding for virus resistance remains challenging due to the inherent trade-offs between plant growth and defense. In a recent study, Yang et al.

Identification of miR‐150‐5p in Human Amniotic Membrane Mesenchymal Cell‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles as a Novel Mechanism Driving Cardioprotection

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 56, Issue 5, May 2026.
Human amniotic membrane mesenchymal stem cells (hAMSCs) provide significant cardioprotection following myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. They improve cardiac function and reduce fibrosis by modulating the MIAT/miR‐150‐5p/HOXA4 signalling axis.

Strategic materials and state capacity in Renaissance Italy: The economic policies of ‘Roman saltpetre’ procurement

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, Volume 79, Issue 2, Page 757-780, May 2026.
Abstract Demonstrating the existence of a soaring demand for strategic materials in fifteenth‐century Rome, the article pioneers research in the late medieval trade in saltpetre, the irreplaceable, rare component of gunpowder, indispensable for waging war following the diffusion of artillery technology.
