Spatial inequality through the prism of a pandemic: Covid-19 in South Africa

open access: yesScientific African, 2021
In this paper, we examine whether pre-existing socio-economic inequalities relate to inequalities in vulnerability to COVID-19 infection in the context of South Africa using the 2016 Community Survey, which allows for a detailed geographical ...

Genetic Analysis and Gene Mapping of Multi-tiller and Dwarf Mutant d63 in Rice

open access: yesRice Science, 2013
A spontaneous mutation, tentatively named d63, was derived from the twin-seedling progenies of rice crossed by diploid SARIII and Minghui 63. Compared with wild-type plants, the d63 mutant showed multiple abnormal phenotypes, such as dwarfism, more tillers, smaller flag leaf and reduced seed-setting rate and 1000-grain weight.

Cosmological and black hole brane-world Universes in higher derivative gravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
General model of multidimensional $R^2$-gravity including Riemann tensor square term (non-zero $c$ case) is considered. The number of brane-worlds in such model is constructed (mainly in five dimensions) and their properties are discussed. Thermodynamics

On the two-body problem in general relativity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We consider the two-body problem in post-Newtonian approximations of general relativity. We report the recent results concerning the equations of motion, and the associated Lagrangian formulation, of compact binary systems, at the third post-Newtonian ...

Dynamical Generation of Yukawa Interactions in Intersecting D-brane Models

open access: yes, 2004
We construct a supersymmetric composite model in type IIA T^6/(Z_2 x Z_2) orientifold with intersecting D6-branes. Four generations of quarks and leptons are naturally emerged as composite fields at low energies.

B to light meson transition form factors calculated in perturbative QCD approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We calculate the $B\to P$, $B\to V$ (P: light pseudoscalar meson, V light vector meson) form factors in the large-recoil limit in perturbative QCD approach, including both the vector (axial vector) and tensor operators.

Shifting tax burden to top income earners: what is the best way to reduce inequality?

open access: yesEconomics: Journal Articles, 2019
The authors analyze to what extent and how the tax burden should be shifted towards top income earners in order to reduce income inequality. Starting from Lambert and Aronson (Inequality decomposition analysis and the Gini coefficient revisited 1993) and
