Novel nomograms to predict risk and prognosis in hospitalized patients with severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2023
BackgroundSevere fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging and life-threatening infectious disease caused by SFTS virus. Although recent studies have reported the use of nomograms based on demographic and laboratory data to predict the ...

Projecting spatiotemporal dynamics of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome in the mainland of China

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 29, Issue 23, Page 6647-6660, December 2023., 2023
We use an integrated multi‐model, multi‐scenario framework to assess the impact of global climate change on SFTS disease in the mainland of China. The SFTS incidence in three time periods (2030–2039, 2050–2059, and 2080–2089) is predicted to be increased as compared to the 2010s in the context of various RCPs.

Viral suppression of type I interferon signaling by NSs of DBV, SFSV and UUKV via NSs-mediated RIG-I degradation

open access: yesBiosafety and Health, 2022
Phenuiviridae, a member of the Bunyavirales order, can lead to significant human morbidity and mortality. Various phenuiviruses target specific cellular proteins and have strategies to counteract the effects of type I interferon (IFN).

Humoral immunity to phlebovirus infection

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Volume 1530, Issue 1, Page 23-31, December 2023., 2023
Phleboviruses are global zoonotic pathogens that can cause severe disease when transmitted to humans. Here we discuss how studying antibody responses during natural infection and the identification of neutralizing epitopes on the mature polyproteins Gn and Gc are informing the development of phlebovirus vaccines.

SFTSV Gn‐Head mRNA vaccine confers efficient protection against lethal viral challenge

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 95, Issue 11, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) is an emerging tick‐borne virus, causing thrombocytopenia and hemorrhagic fever, with a fatality rate ranging from 12% to 30%. SFTSV possesses Gn and Gc glycoproteins, which are responsible for host cell receptor attachment and membrane fusion, respectively, to infect host cells.

Antibody production and characterization of the nucleoprotein of sever fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) for effective diagnosis of SFTSV

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2023
Background Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an infectious disease caused by the Dabie bandavirus, [or SFTS virus (SFTSV)] that has become increasingly widespread since it was first reported in 2009.

Tocilizumab therapy for IL-6 increment in a patient with non-fatal severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2022
We report the administration of an anti-interleukin (IL)-6 antibody in a case of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) with an increase in IL-6. On the day of admission, SFTS viral load and IL-6 concentration were 93 831 copies/ml and 5.4 pg/

Broad‐Spectrum Antiviral Agents against SARS‐CoV‐2 Variants Inhibit the Conserved Viral Protein Nsp1–RNA Interaction

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 136, Issue 47, November 18, 2024.
The demand for robust antiviral approaches is underscored by the continued COVID‐19 spread. SARS‐CoV‐2 Nsp1, highly conserved among SARS‐CoV‐2 variants, plays a pivotal role in controlling host protein expression and viral RNA translation. A small‐molecule Nsp1 inhibitor exhibited antiviral activity against various sarbecoviruses, signifying a ...
