Stylus damage prevention index

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2000
Stylus methods for measuring surfaces have sometimes been blamed for causing damage to the surface because of the stylus pressure. This paper investigates this possibility and develops a ‘potential damage index’ which takes into account the instrument parameters, static and dynamic, and surface parameters.

Vitamin C for DNA damage prevention

Mutation Research - Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 2012
The ability of vitamin C to affect genetic damage was reviewed in human studies that used molecular epidemiology methods, including analysis of DNA adducts, DNA strand breakage (using the Comet assay), oxidative damage measured as levels of 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG), cytogenetic analysis of chromosomal aberrations and micronuclei,

Prevention of Damage to Cuffed Catheters

Home Hemodialysis International, 1999
Cuffed catheters, although not ideal for long‐term use, are now used more frequently due to an increase in the aging population, in whom the vessels are not suitable for either arteriovenous fistulas or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) grafts. Infections and thrombosis remain the major causes for removal or change of catheters. We recently identified ...

Preventing Potato Bruise Damage

Bruising costs the U.S. potato industry hundreds of millions of dollars annually and penalizes growers via lower prices, reduced demand and increased storage loss. This training guide helps producers, packers and shippers avoid these shortfalls by identifying the types of bruising (skinning, blackspot, shatter bruise and pressure bruise); by detailing ...
