Vibration attenuation of a cylindrical shell with constrained layer damping strips treatment

Computers and Structures, 2001
Abstract The damping effects of constrained layer damping treatment of strip type on a cylindrical shell are investigated. A thin shell theory in conjunction with the Donnell–Mushtari–Vlasov assumptions is employed in the derivation. With the assumed-mode method, discretized equations of motion in terms of shell’s transverse modal coordinates are ...

Acoustic attenuation and vibration damping materials

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1995
A means of enhancing the acoustic attenuation and vibration damping of a material by embedding high characteristic acoustic impedance particles, low characteristic acoustic impedance particles, or both high and low characteristic acoustic impedance particles within the matrix of the material is disclosed.

Dislocation damping and the ultrasonic attenuation in tin

Cryogenics, 1979
Abstract Measurement of ultrasonic attenuation in single crystals of pure tin has been taken at 300 K for frequencies varying from 3 to 50 MHz and at different dislocation densities. There is a resonant behaviour in attenuation due to dislocation and the resonance frequency vo increases with an increase in dislocation density A. Experimentally it has

Ultrasonic Attenuation and Dislocation Damping in Crystals of Ice

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1986
The attenuation of megahertz ultrasound has been measured in single crystals of ice at higher temperatures. Specimen crystals were grown by the Bridgman method from purified water, and crystals doped with various ions were also used. An overdamped resonance peak of dislocation damping always appeared in decrement-vs-frequency, and the peak frequency ...

Milling vibration attenuation by eddy current damping

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2015
Machining vibrations are harmful to workpiece surface quality and tool life, especially for thin-walled parts. A lightweight damping device is proposed by utilizing eddy current damping, and it can be easily attached onto the workpiece surface by glue.

Ultrasonic attenuation and dislocation damping in helium crystals

Physical Review B, 1979
Measurements of the attenuation of pulsed longitudinal sound at frequencies of 5, 15, 25, 35, and 45 MHz have been made in hcp $^{4}\mathrm{He}$ crystals grown under constant pressure of 32.5 and 60.0 atm at molar volumes of 20.5 and 19.2 ${\mathrm{cm}}^{3}$/mole. The specimens used for the measurements were considered to be single crystals.

Damping Attenuation Characteristics of the Valve-controlled Shock Absorber

2019 IEEE 8th International Conference on Fluid Power and Mechatronics (FPM), 2019
In order to study the damping characteristics of valve-controlled shock absorber. According to the heat generation and dissipation process, the thermal balance model of the shock absorber was established from the perspective of energy conservation.

Landau Damping and the Attenuation of Whistlers

The Physics of Fluids, 1962
Transverse electromagnetic oscillations in a gyrotropic plasma exhibit Landau damping when the wave is not monochromatic. The dependence of the damping on the equilibrium distribution and the boundary (or initial) values is investigated. The resulting dispersion relation is interpreted by examining the response of a single free electron to an incident ...

Modelling of squeal noise attenuation of ring damped wheels

Applied Acoustics, 2004
Abstract The called vibratory instability squeal that appears in narrow curve or in end of braking is today uncontrolled and produced a high pitched noise very intense and unbearable. Many systems have been developed to limit acoustic emissions and particularly the metallic ring damping solution.

Damping of dislocation and the ultrasonic attenuation in normal and superconducting tin

Journal of Low Temperature Physics, 1978
Ultrasonic attenuation measurements at liquid helium temperatures, 77 K, and 300 K in single crystals of pure tin with frequencies varying from 3 to 50 MHz reveal in a qualitative way the temperature dependence of the electronic damping parameter B en. An approximate estimate of B en at 300 K has been made.
