Micro-mechanism of damping vibration attenuation on porous metal coating

open access: yesActa Physica Sinica, 2015
Based on molecular dynamics method and in-situ scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations, the damping efficiency of the porous metal coating is discussed in this paper. Molecular dynamics simulation is performed to study the plastic deformations of Cu films with vibration.

Life‐Like Ferrous Oxide Microspheres from Kombucha

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Kombucha bacterial cellulose, sodium alginate, and ferrous nitrate self‐assemble into membrane‐enclosed iron oxide microspheres. These microspheres bud daughter vesicles, sustain 24‐h electrochemical oscillations, and filter theta‐band signals.

Investigation of the effects of cloud attenuation on satellite communication systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The aim of this project is to investigate the attenuation due to clouds at 20- 50GHz; to develop an accurate long-term prediction model of cloud attenuation applicable to slant-path links and evaluate the impact of cloud attenuation dynamics on the ...

Light attenuation characteristics of glacially-fed lakes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Transparency is a fundamental characteristic of aquatic ecosystems and is highly responsive to changes in climate and land use. The transparency of glacially-fed lakes may be a particularly sensitive sentinel characteristic of these changes.

Measurements of wave damping by a grease ice slick in Svalbard using off-the-shelf sensors and open-source electronics

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 2017
Versatile instruments assembled from off-the-shelf sensors and open-source electronics are used to record wave propagation and damping measured by Inertial Motion Units (IMUs) in a grease ice slick near the shore in Adventfjorden, Svalbard.

Programmable Pneumatic Actuator System for a Bioinspired Artificial Colon

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A modular soft robotic colon simulator driven by programmable pneumatic actuation is developed to mimic physiological and pathological‐like motility patterns of the large intestine. Finite element–guided design and distributed control enable anatomically realistic deformation for peristalsis, segmentation, and mass movements, supporting capsule ...

Toward Perception‐Native Electronic Skin: Bio‐Inspired In‐/Near‐Sensor and Neuromorphic Computing for Humanoid Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Dense tactile streams from across the humanoid body converge on collide in a central wiring and data bottleneck. By relocating computation closer to and then into the skin itself, near‐ and in‐sensor architectures, together with neuromorphic computing, chart a path toward perception‐native electronic skin, in which the conversion of stimulus into ...
