Concrete-based constrained layer damping

Precision Engineering, 2002
This method allows a fabricated (welded) machine tool structure to be designed for minimum cost and maximum dynamic stiffness comparable to polymer concrete structures.

Confinement-dependent damping in a layered liquid

Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2011
We present atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements of the conservative oscillatory solvation forces and the damping in confined films of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane using small amplitude modulation with magnetic driving. We find distinct maxima in the interaction damping upon probing the discrete molecular layers, supporting earlier observations of

Multilayered damping composites with damping layer/constraining layer prepared by a novel method

Composites Science and Technology, 2014
Abstract The alternating multilayered damping composites, chlorinated butyl rubber (CIIR) as damping layer and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as constraining layer, were first prepared through novel multilayered co-extrusion. The damping properties of the CIIR/PMMA multilayered damping composites were investigated by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA).

Damping capacity of layered materials

Journal of Applied Physics, 1994
Extensive measurements of the internal friction in a variety of layered materials such as graphite, metal dichalcogenides (MoS2, TiS2, NbSe2, TaS2, TaSe2, and TaTe2), and montmorillonite clays are reported. The internal friction of these layered materials exhibits features similar to those observed in graphite.

Vibration Damping by a Stiffened Damping Layer

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1958
For a number of years it has been known that bending vibrations in a plate can be damped by the application of a layer of damping (viscoelastic) material that is in turn stiffened or constrained by a backing layer or foil. A common example is the damping tape currently used in aircraft.

Damping in coupled, layered helium films

Physical Review B, 1985
A phenomenological description of coupled, layered helium films, which includes damping, is formulated and applied to analysis of the recent data of Ellis and Hallock. This application requires estimating the interfilm coupling for two quite different situations: for low $^{3}$He coverage, where the $^{3}$He behaves like a d=2 ideal gas and for high $^{

Vibration and Damping Analysis of Plates with Partially Covered Damping Layers

Acta Acustica united with Acustica, 2011
The constrained-layer damping treatment is widely used to control the resonant response of vibrating structures, particularly in the automotive and aerospace industries. This technique requires design tools in order to select the best location, type and thickness of the damping and constraining-layer materials for optimum damping while minimizing the ...

Damped Response of Shells by a Constrained Viscoelastic Layer

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1986
Vibration absorbers are introduced into an asymmetric configuration of thin cylinders and tori enclosing an acoustic medium. The absorbers consist of thin axial strips bonded to the cylinder with a thin viscoelastic layer. The constrained layer dissipates the energy of relative motions between strip and cylinder.
