Metarhizium anisopliae alleviates the phytotoxic effects of polyethylene nanoplastics (NP) and lead (Pb) in rice by decreasing Pb uptake, restoring antioxidant and hormonal equilibrium, and promoting growth. Additionally, the fungus modifies the rhizosphere microbiota, enhancing both contaminant tolerance and plant growth, thereby effectively ...

Safety Assessment of Concrete Gravity Dams: Hydromechanical Coupling and Fracture Propagation
For the safety assessment of concrete dam–foundation systems, this study used an explicit time-stepping small-displacement algorithm, which simulates the hydromechanical interaction and considers the discrete representation of the foundation ...

Neighborhood social environments and mental health among youth and adults in public housing
Abstract Neighborhoods influence health in part through social processes. However, little is known about how multiple neighborhood social processes co‐occur, or about within (vs. between) neighborhood variation in social processes and health. This study asked how residents of a large public housing development describe their neighborhood and used ...

Generating golden Syrian hamsters with conditional alleles via zygote microinjection of CRISPR/Cas9
We established the first conditional knockout (cKO) model in the golden Syrian hamster by CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated genome editing. Cas9 protein, two sgRNAs, and a donor plasmid carrying loxP‐flanked exon 2 of the ApoF gene were microinjected into one‐cell embryos. The floxed allele was efficiently generated (up to 27%) and transmitted through the germline.

The increasing prevalence of dementia and related neurodegenerative diseases—including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis—poses a growing public health challenge. These conditions have traditionally been studied as isolated central nervous system disorders, but emerging evidence points to ...

Understanding Neurodegenerative Diseases From the −Omics Perspective: Lessons Learnt
As the population ages, certain neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) are becoming a major health issue. For this reason, this review will focus on the most common ND with onset after 65 years old; Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia.

Assessment of Contact Laws Accounting for Softening in 3D Rigid Concrete Particle Models
To obtain predictions closer to concrete behaviour, it is necessary to employ a particle model (PM) that considers contact softening. A bilinear softening contact model (BL) has been adopted in PM studies.

Piped water cooling of concrete dams [PDF]
Piped water is used to remove hydration heat from concrete dams during construction. By examining simple models we obtain an estimate for the temperature rise along the pipe network and within the concrete.
