Treatment of bacteremia by vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus with daptomycin versus linezolid: a systematic review and meta-analyses

open access: yesIatreia, 2017
Introduction: Second-line drugs such as linezolid and daptomycin are used for treatment of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) infections. Objective: A systematic review to evaluate treatment of VRE bacteremia with linezolid versus daptomycin ...

Daptomycin: Local Application in Implant-Associated Infection and Complicated Osteomyelitis

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2012
Background. The rise of highly resistant bacteria creates a persistent urge to develop new antimicrobial agents. This paper investigates the application of the lipopeptide antibiotic daptomycin in infections involving the human bone. Methods. Compressive

Antibiotic Combinations Preventing Bacterial Resistance: Studies on an in vitro Model with Staphylococcus aureus Exposed to Linezolid–Daptomycin

open access: yesАнтибиотики и Химиотерапия, 2020
To predict the anti-mutant effects of antibiotic combinations against Staphylococcus aureus, the mutant prevention concentrations (MPCs) of linezolid and daptomycin were determined at a linezolid-to-daptomycin concentration ratio that corresponds to the ...

Population Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Modelling of Daptomycin for Schedule Optimization in Patients with Renal Impairment

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2022
The aims of this study are (i) to develop a population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic model of daptomycin in patients with normal and impaired renal function, and (ii) to establish the optimal dose recommendation of daptomycin in clinical practice ...

Enhanced Antibacterial Properties of Lyotropic Liquid Crystalline Nanoparticles via Curvature Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid nanostructured particles with increasing negative Gaussian curvature progress from vesicles to P‐cubosomes and D‐cubosomes. This curvature hierarchy enhances interaction with bacterial membranes, promotes membrane remodeling and leakage, and potentiates daptomycin activity against MRSA.

Influence of the minimum inhibitory concentration of daptomycin on the outcomes of Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia

open access: yesJournal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance, 2021
Objectives: Recent studies have shown that methicillin-resistantStaphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteraemia with vancomycin minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) >1 μg/mL is associated with a higher rate of treatment failure and a higher mortality rate ...

Pyrazole‐Derived Antibacterial Compounds Effectively Treat Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus Infections by Inhibiting Aspartate Transcarbamoylase

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study unveils a novel antibacterial mechanism against MRSA, in which the compound Py‐27 selectively targets and inhibits aspartate transcarbamoylase (ATCase), a key enzyme in pyrimidine synthesis. This inhibition disrupts DNA replication, induces oxidative damage, leading to potent bactericidal activity.

Loss of LafB activity reverses daptomycin resistance in E. faecium

open access: yesmBio
Infections caused by multidrug-resistant enterococci, particularly vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE), present significant therapeutic challenges. Daptomycin, a last-line treatment for VRE, often loses efficacy due to the emergence of resistance. In
