DAT1 VNTR Polymorphisms in a European and an African Population: Identification of a New Allele [PDF]

open access: yesHuman Biology, 2008
Polymorphism frequencies of the dopamine transporter gene (DAT1) hypervariable region have been analyzed in a sample of Italian and Ivory Coast individuals. The 3' untranslated region (UTR) of DAT1 includes a variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) of a 40-bp monomer, ranging from 3 to 13 repeats in Caucasian and African populations.

DRD3 and DAT1 genes in schizophrenia: an association study

Journal of Psychiatric Research, 2000
To investigate the role of the dopamine receptor 3 (DRD3) and transporter 1 (DAT1) genes in schizophrenia or in modulating its phenotype.a Ser9Gly polymorphism in codon 9 of the DRD3 and a VNTR polymorphism in the DAT1genes were examined in two groups of schizophrenic patients, one of excellent neuroleptic responders (N=42) and one of nonresponders (N ...

Dopamine transporter (DAT1) VNTR polymorphism in 12 Indian populations

open access: yesNeurological Sciences, 2009
The dopamine transporter (DAT1) is a membrane spanning protein that binds the neurotransmitter dopamine and performs re-uptake of dopamine from the synapse into a neuron. The gene encoding DAT1 consists of 15 exons spanning 60 kb on chromosome 5p15.32.

DAT1 VNTR allele frequencies in the Omani population.

open access: yesHuman biology, 2005
To determine the genetic variability at the human DAT1 VNTR locus, we screened 110 healthy Omani blood donors using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and agarose gel electrophoresis. Two common alleles (DAT1*9 and DAT1*10) were observed with a frequency of 0.332 and 0.609, respectively. There were also five rare alleles (*3, *6, *7, *8, and *11). The

No support for association between the dopamine transporter (DAT1) gene and ADHD

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics, 2005
Several groups have reported an association between the 10-repeat allele of a dopamine transporter (DAT1) 3UTR VNTR variant and ADHD but the finding has not been universally observed. An association between DAT1 genotype and stimulant medication response

Novelty Seeking and a Dopamine Transporter Gene Polymorphism (DAT1)

Biological Psychiatry, 1997
About 10 years ago, Cloninger defined the behavioral trait “novelty seeking” (NS) (Cloninger 1986, 1987). Two twin studies estimated the heritability of NS to be about 50% (Heath et al 1994; Stallings et al 1996). In early 1996, two papers reported significant associations between NS and a polymorphism of the type 4 dopamine receptor gene (DRD4 ...

Functional Effects of the DAT1 Polymorphism on EEG Measures in ADHD

Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, 2003
This paper examines whether dopamine transporter gene (DAT1) allele status mediates medication-related change in cognitive and neurophysiological measures among children with attention-deficiency/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).A single 10-mg dose of methylphenidate was given in a double-blind, placebo-controlled fashion to children with ADHD who were ...
