Applied Mathematical Modelling, 1997 Two assimilation methods -- Kalman filtering and Kriging approach -- are suggested for the dynamic estimation of air pollution. The main advantages and disadvantages of both methods are indicated and discussed. Their properties are compared for a number of artificial experiments.
