Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Deep learning accelerated the discovery of multi‐principal element alloys with various strength‐toughness trade‐offs

open access: yesMaterials Genome Engineering Advances
Machine learning has significantly enhanced the efficiency of multi‐principal element alloys (MPEAs) development. Nonetheless, despite its potential, the rapid discovery of MPEAs with various strength‐toughness trade‐offs remains a largely unexplored ...

Examined Lives: Informational Privacy and the Subject as Object [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In the United States, proposals for informational privacy have proved enormously controversial. On a political level, such proposals threaten powerful data processing interests.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Fusion of multi source data for atmospheric corrosion evaluation using sensors and image recognition

open access: yesnpj Materials Degradation
s Detecting corrosion in Q235 steel is crucial for ensuring the safety and maintenance of industrial facilities. In this study, we present a novel approach that combines image recognition techniques with corrosion sensor data to improve both the accuracy

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Translating proprietary protection setting data into standardized IEC 61850 format for protection setting validation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
For smart grid development, one of the key expectations is that the data should be accessible to and readily interpreted by different applications. Presently, protection settings are represented using proprietary parameters and stored in various file ...
