Las Farianas: Reintegration of former female FARC fighters as a driver for peace in Colombia

open access: yesCuadernos de Economía, 2019
The 2016 peace agreement includes comprehensive prescriptions for the so-called “reincorporation” of former combatants into the social, economic and political life of Colombia.

From conflict to ownership: Participatory approaches to the re-integration of ex-combatants in Sierra Leone [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The demobilisation and re-integration of ex-combatants has become an important element in peace-building. The need for a more holistic, integrated approach, in which there is greater local ownership of the process, has long been recognised.

PRDM1+ Malignant Cells Mediate an Immunosuppressive Landscape and Resistance to Neoadjuvant Chemoradiotherapy and Immunotherapy in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integrated scRNA‐seq, scTCR‐seq analysis, and functional assays identify PRDM1+ malignant epithelial cells with hyper lipid peroxidation characteristics that demonstrate reduced responsiveness to the nICRT treatment. Principal factor PRDM1 activates cysteine metabolism genes to modulate lipid peroxidation (an intrinsic cellular pathway related to ...

Enabling cyber-physical demand response in smart grids via conjoint communication and controller design

open access: yesIET Cyber-Physical Systems, 2019
This study proposes a novel user-centric cyber-physical framework to achieve distributed demand response (DDR) in a distribution system where local schedulers (LS) present at individual buses program both local and non-local loads to reduce the maximum ...

Conversion of Transplanted Mature Hepatocytes into Afp+ Reprogrammed Cells for Liver Regeneration After Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Donor‐derived tdTomato+ mature hepatocytes were FACS‐isolated and transplanted into Fah−/− host mice. During regeneration, these cells convert into proliferative, unipotent Afp+ rHeps. Their plasticity is governed by a PPARγ/AFP‐dependent metabolic switch, segregating into pro‐proliferative Afplow and pro‐survival Afphigh subpopulations.

Somatic mutation load of estrogen receptor-positive breast tumors predicts overall survival: an analysis of genome sequence data. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women. While there are several effective therapies for breast cancer and important single gene prognostic/predictive markers, more than 40,000 women die from this disease every year.

Pro‐ATO/Allicin Liposomes for Dual‐Pathway Targeting of p53‐Mutant Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the “pro‐ATO”/allicin liposomal strategy. Liposomal encapsulation improves the stability and bioavailability of both agents while masking allicin's odor. Upon release in the tumor microenvironment, ATO reactivates structural p53 mutants, and allicin inhibits ATR signaling while releasing H2S, collectively inducing synthetic ...

Hopf-cyclic cohomology of the Connes-Moscovici Hopf algebras with infinite dimensional coefficients

open access: yes, 2017
We discuss a new strategy for the computation of the Hopf-cyclic cohomology of the Connes-Moscovici Hopf algebra $\mathcal{H}_n$. More precisely, we introduce a multiplicative structure on the Hopf-cyclic complex of $\mathcal{H}_n$, and we show that the ...

Review of Transcriptomic Biomarkers That Predict In Vitro Genotoxicity in Human Cell Lines

open access: yesEnvironmental and Molecular Mutagenesis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The current genotoxicity testing paradigm provides little mechanistic information, has poor specificity in predicting carcinogenicity in humans, and is not suited to assessing a large number of chemicals. Genomic technologies enable the characterization of genome‐wide transcriptional changes in response to chemical treatments that can inform ...

Quantifying Parametric Influence on Cuttings Transport in Deviated Deep Wells Using Global Sensitivity Analysis Methods

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Cuttings transport simulation workflow. ABSTRACT Efficient cuttings transport is essential for wellbore stability and minimizing non‐productive time in deviated and horizontal wells. This study applies global sensitivity analysis (GSA) to evaluate the influence of 14 drilling parameters on cuttings transport using WellPlanTM hydraulic simulations ...
