Chemical decay of an antibiotic inverts selection for resistance [PDF]

open access: yesNature Chemical Biology, 2010
Antibiotics are often unstable and can decay into various compounds with potential biological activities. We found that as tetracycline degrades, the competitive advantage conferred to bacteria by resistance not only diminishes but actually reverses to become a prolonged disadvantage due to the activities of more stable degradation products ...

Decay-resistance of particleboard.

open access: yesWood Preservation, 1986

The reactivity of linseed and soybean oil with different epoxidation degree towards vinyl acetate and impact of the resulting copolymer on the wood durability

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2017
Linseed (LO) and soybean oil (SO) were in–situ epoxidized with peracetic acid to produce different degree of epoxidized LO and epoxidized SO. For comparison purpose, commercial epoxidized linseed oil (ELO®) and epoxidized soybean oil (ESO®) were also ...

Termite and Decay Resistances of Sumatran Elephant Dung-based Particleboard Modified with Wood Shavings and Bamboo Layering

open access: yesBioResources, 2023
Elephant dung (ED) particleboard (PB) still has subpar physical and mechanical qualities. In earlier research, adding wood shavings and bamboo layers to ED-derived PB successfully enhanced its physical and mechanical qualities. However, the resistance to

Resistance to Phomopsis Seed Decay in Soybean [PDF]

open access: yesISRN Agronomy, 2013
Phomopsis seed decay (PSD) of soybean is caused primarily by the fungal pathogen Phomopsis longicolla Hobbs along with other Phomopsis and Diaporthe spp. This disease causes poor seed quality and suppresses yield in most soybean-growing countries. Infected soybean seeds can be symptomless, but are typically shriveled, elongated, cracked, and have a ...

Decay Resistance of Weathered Beech Wood

open access: yesJournal of Anatolian Environmental and Animal Sciences, 2020
Wood is susceptible to photo-degradation in outdoor applications, and deformations occur on its surface such as micro or macro cracks, color changes etc. Especially, cracks make wood material more vulnerable to biotic attacks. In this study, decay resistance of natural and accelerated weathered beech samples was investigated by a brown (Coniophora ...
