The Hubble Deep Field in the Far Ultraviolet
Results from a recent HST survey of field galaxies at wavelengths 1600 Angstroms and 2400 Angstroms are be presented. The data are used to constrain the fraction of Lyman-continuum radiation that escapes from galaxies at redshifts z ~ 1.

Star Formation History since z = 1.5 as Inferred from Rest-Frame Ultaviolet Luminosity Density Evolution [PDF]
We investigate the evolution of the universal rest-frame ultraviolet luminosity density from z = 1.5 to the present. We analyze an extensive sample of multicolor data (U', B, V = 24.5) plus spectroscopic redshifts from the Hawaii Survey Fields and the ...

An Amorphous (Al0.12Ga0.88)2O3 Deep Ultraviolet Photodetector
The authors report the deposition of an (AlxGa1-x)2O3 amorphous thin film on sapphire substrates by sputter deposition. An amorphous deep ultraviolet (UV) (Al0.12Ga0.88)2O3 photodetector, with a cutoff wavelength at 230 nm, was also fabricated.

A phenomenological model for the X-ray spectrum of Nova V2491 Cygni [PDF]
The X-ray flux of Nova V2491 Cyg reached a maximum some forty days after optical maximum. The X-ray spectrum at that time, obtained with the RGS of XMM-Newton, shows deep, blue-shifted absorption by ions of a wide range of ionization.

Design of Double-Lattice Photonic Crystal of DUV Laser by ANN-RBF Neural Network
In this study, a double-lattice photonic crystal structure was designed to achieve deep ultraviolet lasing without the use of any Distributed Bragg Reflector (DBR), which is called a photonic-crystal surface-emitting laser (PCSEL).

Hexagonal MASnI$_3$ exhibiting strong absorption of ultraviolet photons
MASnI$_3$, an organometallic halide, has great potential in the field of lead-free perovskite solar cells. Ultraviolet photons have been shown to generate deep trapping electronic defects in mesoporous TiO$_2$-based perovskite, affecting its performance ...

Ammonia Distribution Measurement on a Hot Gas Test Bench Applying Tomographical Optical Methods
Measuring the distribution of gas concentration is a very common problem in a variety of technological fields. Depending on the detectability of the gas, as well as the technological progress of the sector, different methods are used.

Strain-driven light polarization switching in deep ultraviolet nitride emitters
Residual strain plays a critical role in determining the crystalline quality of nitride epitaxial layers and in modifying their band structure; this often leads to several interesting physical phenomena.

Multi-mJ, kHz, ps deep-ultraviolet source [PDF]
We demonstrate a 0.56-GW, 1-kHz, 4.2-ps, 2.74-mJ deep-ultraviolet (DUV) laser at ∼257.7 nm with a beam propagation factor (M2) of ∼2.54 from a frequency-quadrupled cryogenic multi-stage Yb-doped chirped-pulse amplifier. The frequency quadrupling is achieved using LiB3O5 and β-BaB2O4 crystals for near-infrared (NIR)-to-green and green-to-DUV conversion,

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
