Defect-Rich 2D Material Networks for Advanced Oxygen Evolution Catalysts

open access: yes, 2018
A versatile and straightforward room-temperature strategy is demonstrated to synthesize boundary defect-rich ultrathin transition metal hydroxide nanosheet networks by in situ etching of a cobalt metal–organic framework (Co-MOF, ZIF-L-Co).

The diagnostic accuracy of preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) in assessing the genetic status of embryos: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesReproductive Biology and Endocrinology
Background Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) is widely used in assisted reproduction to assess the genetic status of embryos. However, increasing evidence suggests that the trophectoderm (TE) may not fully reflect the genetic status of the inner cell

Neonatal and maternal adverse outcomes among low-risk nulliparous women compared with multiparous women at 37–41 weeks of gestation: a cohort study in South China

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to compare the differences in neonatal and maternal adverse outcomes between low-risk full-term nulliparous (women giving birth for the first time) and low-risk full-term multiparous (women who have given birth ...

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Defect correction from a galerkin viewpoint

open access: yes, 1985
We consider the numerical solution of systems of nonlinear two point boundary value problems by Galerkin's method. An initial solution is computed with piecewise linear approximating functions and this is then improved by using higher—order piecewise ...

Blood‐based proteomic profiling reveals context‐dependent changes in BCL2‐associated signaling during taxane therapy in breast cancer patients

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Identification of novel compound heterozygote variants in the PCCB gene in a fetus with undetectable fetal phenotype

open access: yesBMC Medical Genomics
Propionic acidemia (PA) is a rare autosomal recessive metabolic disorder caused by functional deficiency of propionyl-CoA carboxylase, clinically characterized by life-threatening ketoacidosis, hyperammonemia, and multiorgan dysfunction.

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.
