On the Defect Group of a 6D SCFT [PDF]

open access: yesLetters in Mathematical Physics, 2016
We use the F-theory realization of 6D superconformal field theories (SCFTs) to study the corresponding spectrum of stringlike, i.e. surface defects. On the tensor branch, all of the stringlike excitations pick up a finite tension, and there is a corresponding lattice of string charges, as well as a dual lattice of charges for the surface defects.

Some Remarks on Anchor of Irreducible Characters [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Group Theory and Applications
In this paper, we show that the direct product of the anchors of two irreducible characters is the anchor of the tensor product of their irreducible characters. We prove that the anchor of any irreducible character of a p-group G is G itself.

Defect of characters of the symmetric group [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Group Theory, 2009
Following the work of B. Kuelshammer, J. B. Olsson and G. R. Robinson on generalized blocks of the symmetric groups, we give a definition for the \ell-defect of characters of the symmetric group S_n, where \ell > 1 is an arbitrary integer. We prove that the \ell -defect is given by an analogue of the hook-length formula, and use it to prove, when n &

Defect measures on graded Lie groups [PDF]

open access: yesANNALI SCUOLA NORMALE SUPERIORE - CLASSE DI SCIENZE, 2020
In this article, we define a generalisation of microlocal defect measures (also known as H-measures) to the setting of graded nilpotent Lie groups. This requires to develop the notions of homogeneous symbols and classical pseudo-differential calculus adapted to this setting and defined via the representations of the groups.

On numbers which are orders of nilpotent groups with bounded class [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Group Theory
Let $n$ be a positive integer. In this short note, we characterize those numbers $m$ for which any group of order $m$ is an $n$-Engel group and those numbers $m$ for which any group of order $m$ has all its subgroups subnormal of defect at most $n$.

Some Notes on Defect Groups

open access: yesJournal of Algebra, 2001
First result: Let \(p\) be an odd, non-Mersenne prime, let \(G\) be a finite \(p\)-solvable group, and let \(D\) be a defect group of a \(p\)-block of \(G\). Then there are an element \(y\in O^{p'}(G)\cap C_G(D)\) and a Sylow \(p\)-subgroup \(P\) of \(G\) such that \(P\cap P^y=D\) and \(N_P(D)\) is a Sylow \(p\)-subgroup of \(N_G(D)\).

Group testing with two defectives

open access: yesDiscrete Applied Mathematics, 1982
AbstractRecently the problem of determining the minimax number of group tests for finding two defectives separately contained in two disjoint sets has been completely solved. However, the closely related problem of determining the minimax number of groups tests for finding two defectives contained in one set remains open.

Ganoderma lucidum, a promising agent possessing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects for treating calvarial defects with graft application in rats [PDF]

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2019
Purpose: Ganoderma lucidum, a kind of mushroom used for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory activities, was investigated in the present study for its possible healing effect on calvarial defects with bone grafts.
