Study on ultrasonic treatment for degradation of Microcystins (MCs)

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry, 2020
In recent years, The ecological environment of rivers and lakes have been seriously polluted, and the eutrophication of water bodies has become increasingly prominent, which not only seriously affects the living environment of surrounding residents, but also poses a major threat to the ecological security of water environment.

Isolation and Characterization of Novel Bacteria Capable of Degrading 1,4-Dioxane in the Presence of Diverse Co-Occurring Compounds

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Biodegradation is found to be a promising, cost-effective and eco-friendly option for the treatment of industrial wastewater contaminated by 1,4-dioxane (1,4-D), a highly stable synthetic chemical and probable human carcinogen.

Reducing urinary oxalate by simultaneous using Sankol herbal drop with oxalate-degrading bacteria

open access: yesIranian Journal of Microbiology, 2020
Background and Objectives: Oxalate degrading bacteria and herbal extracts are new strategy for reducing hyperoxaluria. In Iranian traditional medicine, Sankol oral drop is widely used as an antispasmodic drug to reduce stones from urinary tract.

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Characterisation of Hydrocarbon Degrading Antarctic Pseudomonas species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Hydrocarbon contamination of Antarctica poses a threat to the unique and fragile ecosystems of this continent. Bioremediation, utilising indigenous hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria, has been proposed as an environmentally friendly method for clean up of ...

Mitigating microplastic toxicity: How particle size and degrading bacteria influence Cucumis sativus L. seedlings

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Microplastics (MPs) are widely distributed in the environment and have an important impact on the ecosystem. However, there are fewer studies on the effects of microplastics and their degrading bacteria on crops.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Antibiotic Therapy Using Phage Depolymerases: Robustness Across a Range of Conditions

open access: yesViruses, 2018
Phage-derived depolymerases directed against bacterial capsules are showing therapeutic promise in various animal models of infection. However, individual animal model studies are often constrained by use of highly specific protocols, such that results ...
