Astrocyte heterogeneity in brain metastases

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Astrocytes emerge as pivotal regulators of metastatic colonization, survival, immune remodeling, and therapy response associated with an increasing heterogeneity that requires spatially and longitudinally resolved approaches to uncover regulatory programs and guide context‐specific therapies.

Nile Tilapia and Blue Tilapia Fry Production in a Subtropical Climate Based on Degree Days

open access: yes, 2015
The relationship between production in subtropical earthen ponds of fry suitable for hormonal sex inversion and degree days was quantified for Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus; Egypt strain) and blue tilapia (O. aureus).

Interpretation of the Positive-Degree-Days Factor by Heat Balance Characteristics – West Greenland

open access: yes, 1988
From heat balance measurements in the ablation area of West Greenland (EGIG-profile, 1,013 m a.s.l., 69°40'N, 49°38'W) the positive-degree-days-factor is interpreted by the heat balance characteristics. The positive-degree-days-factor depends on the heat

Canada - Growing Degree-Days

open access: yes, 1981
Contained within the 5th Edition (1978 to 1995) of the National Atlas of Canada is a map that shows the annual sum of normal degree-days above 5 C (an indicator of total heat available for plants in the growing season). Data for period 1941 to 1970.

Interferon beta drives therapy resistance in a patient‐derived model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Interferon type 1 (IFN‐1) production and signaling is associated with the acquisition of therapy resistance, following chronic DNA damage, via Interferon‐related DNA damage resistance signature (IRDS) gene expression. An alternative, DNA damage‐independent role of sustained IFN‐1 mediated resistance was identified and characterized by the emergence of ...

Degree Days - Will it be Septembrrrrrr??

open access: yes, 2009
Cooler-than-normal weather continued as September dawned in Iowa. During the first week of September, Iowa lost about an additional 25 degree days to normal. This isn't great, but then not a crisis either.

Computing Freezing and Thawing Degree-Days from Monthly Temperatures

open access: yes, 1975
Normal freezing and thawing degree-days in change-over months can be computed with adequate accuracy from normal monthly average temperatures using the hyperbola: Y[2]-N(t- 32)Y=C.

CEACAM1 participation in breast cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In invasive breast cancer (BC), CEACAM1 shifts from an apical to a uniform membranous/cytoplasmic pattern, or is lost, as tumors dedifferentiate, inversely tracking the Ki‐67 proliferative index. In MCF‐7 cells, only CEACAM1‐4L suppresses proliferation, repressing cell cycle and growth factor genes.

Degree Days - Crops in the Cooler Again

open access: yes, 2009
After three weeks of near-normal temperatures, Iowa weather wrapped up August with a return to colder-than-normal. For the week of Aug. 24 - 31, we gained on average 50 degree days fewer than normal. So where does that put us?
