The precipitation of whey proteins by carboxymethyl cellulose of differing degrees of substitution
Journal of Dairy Research, 1974SummaryThe complexing of whey proteins in hydrochloric acid whey by carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) has been studied. The efficiency of precipitation of CMC (the ability to form insoluble complexes with whey proteins) increased with increasing degree of substitution (DOS) of CMC. At a DOS of greater than 1·4, efficiencies of precipitation of whey protein

On the relationship between the fullerene reactivity and degree of substitution
Russian Chemical Bulletin, 2017The kinetics of radical polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPA, initiator of AIBN) in the presence of some C60 derivatives was studied. It was established experimentally and by quantum chemical calculations that the ability of fullerene to add radicals decreased sharply after the destruction of six double bonds in the C60 molecule due to the ...

Distribution of substituents in corn starch granules with low degrees of substitution
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1960Abstract Low levels of substitution greatly decrease the ability of starch to complex iodine. Phosphorylated, sulfated, and hydroxyethylated starches do not form an insoluble complex in solution when treated with 1-butanol. Electronmicrographs of sections from granules esterified to low levels with sulfate or phosphate and then ion-exchanged with ...

Reaction of propylene oxide with digitonin in strong aqueous alkali yielded water soluble, nontoxic solubilizers of drugs and hormones, the molecular composition of which could be fully deduced from plasma desorption mass spectrometry data. Preparations with average degrees of substitution ranging from 0.7 to 4.5 were investigated, and all the ...

Highly polymerized grades of carboxymethylcellulose sodium serve effectively as disintegrating agents for tablets. The preferred disintegrants have a high degree of polymerization with a small number of carboxymethyl groups. Grades with a low degree of polymerization are poor disintegrating agents irrespective of their degree of substitution.

Carbohydrate Polymers
In this study, carboxymethyl pachymaran (CMP) with three different degrees of substitution were prepared and their hypolipidemic activities were investigated. CMP2 with a substitution degree of 0.791 had different molecular weight and surface smoothness textural profile than CMP1 (0.756) and CMP2 (0.871). All CMPs could reduce 0.5 mM oleic acid-induced

Cellulose ethers and esters with a low degree of substitution
Journal of Polymer Science Part C: Polymer Symposia, 1967AbstractCellulose ethers and esters with a low degree of substitution possess several new physico‐chemical properties as compared with the initial cellulose. Thus, ethers and esters with low degrees of substitution can dissolve in alkali solutions at low temperature and are more accessible to various reagents.

On the Factors of Automorphy for the Group of Integral Modular Substitutions of Second Degree
The Annals of Mathematics, 1961The generalized upper half-plane 3, consisting of all complex symmetric matrices Z = X + i Y with n rows, n columns and positive imaginary part Y, is mapped by the substitution Z* = U*'ZU* + S one-to-one and holomorphically onto itself; here U* denotes a unimodular and S a symmetric matrix with integral rational elements.
