ABSTRACT The increasing frequency of concurrent heat and drought stress poses a significant challenge to agricultural productivity, particularly for cool‐season grain legumes, including broad bean (Vicia Faba L.), lupin (Lupinus spp.), lentil (Lens culinaris Medik), chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.), grasspea (Lathyrus sativus L.), pea (Pisum sativum L ...

The protective roles of glutathione (GSH) applied on salt stress-affected mung bean (Vigna radiata L.) seedlings were studied. The salt stress (200 mM NaCl) significantly increased the malondialdehyde (MDA), methylglyoxal (MG), H2O2, and proline (Pro ...

Gap Analysis of Metabolic Conversions of Off‐Flavors and Antinutrients in Plant‐Based Substrates
ABSTRACT To drastically reduce the carbon footprint of the food production chain, a major shift towards alternatives to conventional meat and dairy products is required. The use of plant‐based proteins is a promising route, but it also comes with challenges: Plant‐based proteins often contain antinutritional factors and off‐flavors, which can ...

Exogenous Glutathione and Nitric Oxide Improve Waterlogging Stress Tolerance in Maize
Exogenous glutathione (GSH) and nitric oxide (NO) enhance waterlogging tolerance in maize seedlings by reducing oxidative damage and improving growth. Combined GSH + NO treatment reduces H2O2 and malondialdehyde levels, enhances antioxidant defenses, protects photosynthetic pigments, and promotes biomass accumulation, thereby improving the ...

Properties of Monodehydroascorbate Reductase and Dehydroascorbate Reductase and Their Participation in the Regeneration of Ascorbate in Euglena gracilis [PDF]
The partially purified monodehydroascorbate reductase (EC 1.6.5.4) from Euglena gracilis Z showed a pH optimum of 7.0 and a temperature optimum of 41 °C, and had an M r of 52000. Activity was threefold higher with N ADPH than with N ADH; the K m values for N ADPH and NADH were 7 and 210 μm, respectively.

SUMMARY Seeds are resilient to genetic and envirxonmental perturbation. For example, they can compensate for the loss of highly abundant seed storage proteins (SSPs) while maintaining amino acid levels and composition, a process known as proteome rebalancing.

Role of antioxidative system during the development and senescence of cucumber fruit
The oxidative processes and antioxidative system in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) fruit were determined during development and senescence. Four distinct developmental stages could be delineated during fruit maturation: immature (3-8 d after anthesis, DAA)
