Selective ability of rat 7-Dehydrocholesterol reductase (DHCR7) to act on some 7-Dehydrocholesterol metabolites but not on lumisterol metabolites. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Steroid Biochem Mol Biol, 2021
7-Dehydrocholesterol reductase (DHCR7) catalyses the final step of cholesterol biosynthesis in the Kandutsch-Russel pathway, the reduction of 7-dehydrocholesterol (7DHC) to cholesterol. 7DHC can be acted on by a range of other enzymes including CYP27A1 and CYP11A1, as well as by UVB radiation, producing a number of derivatives including hydroxy ...

Detection of 7-Dehydrocholesterol and Vitamin D3 Derivatives in Honey. [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
20(S)-Hydroxyvitamin D3 (20(OH)D3) is an endogenous metabolite produced by the action of CYP11A1 on the side chain of vitamin D3 (D3). 20(OH)D3 can be further hydroxylated by CYP11A1, CYP27A1, CYP24A1 and/or CYP27B1 to several hydroxyderivatives. CYP11A1 also hydroxylates D3 to 22-monohydroxyvitamin D3 (22(OH)D3), which is detectable in the epidermis ...

Tunneling in tocopherol-mediated peroxidation of 7-dehydrocholesterol. [PDF]

open access: yesOrg Biomol Chem, 2015
We report here that H-atom tunneling facilitates the propagation step in the tocopherol-mediated peroxidation (TMP) of 7-dehydrocholesterol. This process likely becomes a major propagation pathway when radical intermediates are isolated in cellular organelles or lipid particles such as low-density lipoproteins.

7-Dehydrocholesterol dictates ferroptosis sensitivity. [PDF]

open access: yesNature
Ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death that is driven by iron-dependent phospholipid peroxidation, has been implicated in multiple diseases, including cancer1-3, degenerative disorders4 and organ ischaemia-reperfusion injury (IRI)5,6. Here, using genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 screening, we identified that the enzymes involved in distal cholesterol ...

Radiation-induced ferroptosis via liposomal delivery of 7-Dehydrocholesterol. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Nanobiotechnology
Abstract Background Ferroptosis is an emerging cell death mechanism characterized by uncontrolled lipid peroxidation. However, selectively inducing ferroptosis in cancer cells remains a challenge. Methods We explore an approach that enables ferroptosis induction through ...

Separation of 24- and 25-dehydrocholesterols; and the impure state of commercial desmosterol preparations

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1967
Chromatographic methods for the separation of 24- and 25-dehydrocholesterols are described. The purities of three commercial samples of 24-dehydrocholesterol examined by thin-layer and gas-liquid chromatography were only 42, 79, and 80%, respectively; a ...

A New Route to 7-Dehydrocholesterol, Provitamin D3 [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1946
IN 1935, Windaus, Lettre and Schenck1 described the preparation from cholesterol (I) of 7-dehydrocholesterol (III), which on irradiation gave a highly antirachitic product (vitamin D3), later2 shown to be identical with the naturally occurring vitamin D isolated from tunny liver oil.

Prenatal diagnosis of holoprosencephaly associated with Smith–Lemli–Opitz syndrome (SLOS) in a 46,XX fetus

open access: yesTaiwanese Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2017
Objective: To show the importance of measuring cholesterol precursor levels in amniotic fluid in all pregnancies with ultrasound features (such as holoprosencephaly) suggestive of Smith–Lemli–Opitz syndrome (SLOS), after exclusion of chromosomal ...
