Rethinking intensification: Biodiversity‐inclusive management sustains coconut yields
Coconut palm expansion in West Africa will shape rural livelihoods and ecosystems. Our findings show that intensive practices reduce beneficial soil fungi and increase pathogens, threatening long‐term productivity. Lower‐intensity management that retains ground vegetation can sustain or boost yields while improving soil health.

A leftover service curve approach to analyze demultiplexing in queueing networks
—Queueing networks are typically subject to demulti-plexing operations, whereby network nodes split flows into mul-tiple sub-flows. The demultiplexing operation captures relevant network aspects such as packet loss or multi-path routing. In this paper we

Abstract Advances in DNA technology have significantly enhanced the forensic community's ability to develop genetic profiles from unidentified human skeletal remains. However, sampling requires mechanical grinding of hard tissues before DNA isolation. This processing can compromise genetic profiles, particularly in aged bones.

Avian haemosporidian blood parasites are typically identified through Sanger sequencing of a partial cytochrome b fragment, the MalAvi barcoding region. Next‐generation sequencing is seldom used for avian blood parasite identification; this study demonstrates a higher detection rate of co‐infections via metabarcoding and its possible implications ...

Accuracy of occurrence and abundance estimates from insect metabarcoding
Abstract DNA metabarcoding—high‐throughput sequencing of barcode regions from bulk samples—has become a key tool for insect biodiversity assessment. Yet, how methodological choices affect the accuracy of metabarcoding data remains insufficiently explored. In this paper, we ask: (1) How does the lysis method (non‐destructive lysis vs.

Genotype-free demultiplexing of pooled single-cell RNA-seq
A variety of methods have been developed to demultiplex pooled samples in a single cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) experiment which either require hashtag barcodes or sample genotypes prior to pooling.

Using fecal DNA metabarcoding, we quantified dietary overlap among reintroduced fishers and sympatric coyotes, bobcats, and Pacific martens in Washington's North Cascades. Niche overlap was substantial for common prey but varied with body size, revealing fine‐scale resource partitioning that may limit fishers' access to energetically efficient prey ...
