Isoprene‐Emitting Transgenic Tobacco Shapes Root Microbiome and Enhances Growth of Co‐Cultivated Non‐Emitting Plants

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Isoprene is the most abundant biogenic volatile organic compound emitted by terrestrial vegetation. Here we report the impact of isoprene on root‐associated microbiomes. Using isoprene‐emitting (IE) transgenic tobacco and isogenic non‐emitting (NE) controls, we performed co‐cultivation experiments in natural soil and analysed plant phenotypes ...

Ibero‐Balearic plant disjunctions: genomic support for rapid and recurrent long‐distance colonizations of the endangered Diplotaxis ibicensis (Brassicaceae) despite no dispersal syndromes

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Genotyping‐by‐sequencing data reveal six well‐defined clades in the endangered Diplotaxis ibicensis, endemic to the western Mediterranean Basin and indicate rapid and recurrent long‐distance colonisations across the Balearic Islands and the eastern Iberian coast despite the absence of dispersal syndromes.

Selective seasonal foraging behavior of herbivores on a Danish island demonstrated by DNA metabarcoding

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Understanding how herbivores influence plant communities is critical for managing biodiversity and ecosystem functions, particularly in conservation areas undergoing restoration or rewilding, where free‐ranging large herbivores impact the vegetation development.

Skin Commensal Microbiota Does Not Influence the Clinical Course of Dermatophyte Infection in Persian Cats

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, EarlyView.
Dermatophytes can be isolated from both symptomatic and asymptomatic cats, yet the role of skin commensals in modulating disease expression remains unclear. This study investigates whether microbial skin communities influence the clinical presentation (symptomatic or asymptomatic) of dermatophyte infection in Persian cats.

Screening Equine Skin and Mucous Membranes for Carriage of Coagulase‐Positive Staphylococci

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Commensal populations of coagulase‐positive Staphylococcus spp. (CoPS) in healthy horses are not well‐defined. Objective To determine the point prevalence, anatomical distribution, antimicrobial susceptibility and genomic characteristics of CoPS in healthy horses.

Colonisation History of Freshwater Snails Across the Atlantic and Mediterranean Islands: Insights From Mercuria (Littorinimorpha, Hydrobiidae)

open access: yesZoologica Scripta, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Islands harbour unique biodiversity, and depending on their geological origin, they have fundamentally different colonisation histories: continental islands may contain relict faunas shaped by vicariance and sporadic gene flow, whereas oceanic islands must have been colonised across open seas, often through long‐distance dispersal events ...
