Generation of Granule Cell Dendritic Morphologies by Estimating the Spatial Heterogeneity of Dendritic Branching

open access: yesFrontiers in Computational Neuroscience, 2020
Biological realism of dendritic morphologies is important for simulating electrical stimulation of brain tissue. By adding point process modeling and conditional sampling to existing generation strategies, we provide a novel means of reproducing the ...

Fe-Ag nanocomposite: Hydrothermal preparation of iron nanoparticles and silver dendrite like nanostructures [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nanostructures, 2017
At the first stage Fe3O4 and Fe nanoparticles were synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method. Then silver nanoparticles and Fe-Ag nanocomposites were synthesized in the presence of NaBH4.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Simulation of Dendrite Growth with a Diffusion-Limited Aggregation Model Validated by MRI of a Lithium Symmetric Cell during Charging

open access: yesBatteries
Lithium metal batteries offer high energy density but are challenged by dendrite growth, which can lead to short circuits and battery failure. Multiple models with varying degrees of accuracy and computational cost have been developed to understand and ...
