Growth Factors as Axon Guidance Molecules: Lessons From in vitro Studies
Growth cones at the tips of extending axons navigate through developing organisms by probing extracellular cues, which guide them through intermediate steps and onto final synaptic target sites.

Adaptive Mesh Refinement Computation of Solidification Microstructures using Dynamic Data Structures
We study the evolution of solidification microstructures using a phase-field model computed on an adaptive, finite element grid. We discuss the details of our algorithm and show that it greatly reduces the computational cost of solving the phase-field ...

Dopamine-D1 and δ-opioid receptors co-exist in rat striatal neurons [PDF]
Cocaine’s enhancement of dopaminergic neurotransmission in the mesolimbic pathway plays a critical role in the initial reinforcing properties of this drug. However, other neurotransmitter systems are also integral to the addiction process.

Dendritic compactifications of certain dendritic spaces [PDF]
A dendritic space is a connected space in which every two points are separated by a third point. In this paper we describe a very natural method for obtaining a dendritic compactification of any connected space for which a dendritic compactification exists.

Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

Electrocrystallization of fibrous silver deposits from nitrate melts: Experiments and modeling [PDF]
Fibrous silver deposits have been obtained in molten nitrates on a moving cathode. Cylindrical silver cathode was lifted from the melt AgNO3-NaNO3-KNO3. It is found that the dimensions of the silver threads as well as their shape and thickness depend on ...

Cortical patterns and gamma genesis are modulated by reversal potentials and gap-junction diffusion [PDF]
In this chapter we describe a continuum model for the cortex that includes both axon-to-dendrite chemical synapses and direct neuron-to-neuron gap-junction diffusive synapses.

Targeting p38α in cancer: challenges, opportunities, and emerging strategies
p38α normally regulates cellular stress responses and homeostasis and suppresses malignant transformation. In cancer, however, p38α is co‐opted to drive context‐dependent proliferation and dissemination. p38α also supports key functions in cells of the tumor microenvironment, including fibroblasts, myeloid cells, and T lymphocytes.

IntroductionAnkG, encoded by the ANK3 gene, is a multifunctional scaffold protein with complex isoform expression: the 480 and 270 kDa isoforms have roles at the axon initial segment and node of Ranvier, whereas the 190 kDa isoform (AnkG-190) has an ...

Cotargeting TREM2 and IL2 pathways triggers multipronged anticancer immunity
Von Locquenghien et al. report that MiTE‐144, a triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) blocking antibody fused to interleukin‐2 (IL2) variant with tumour microenvironment restricted activation, demonstrates superior anticancer efficiency in a preclinical setting.
