Key Amino Acid Substitution for Infection-Enhancing Activity-Free Designer Dengue Vaccines

open access: yesiScience, 2019
Summary: Dengue is a globally important disease caused by four serotypes of dengue virus. Dengue vaccine development has been hampered by antigenic cross-reactivity among serotypes, which potentially causes antibody-dependent enhancement of infection and

A clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeat‐Cas12a‐based assay for rapid dengue virus monitoring in mosquito and clinical samples facilitating global collaborative surveillance and risk assessment to block dengue spreading

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
The RAA‐Cas12a assay outperforms real‐time PCR in sensitivity (92.3%) while matching its specificity (100%) for dengue virus detection in clinical samples. It effectively identifies DENV in mosquitoes, with field data correlating to local outbreaks. This rapid, simple, and precise method serves as an early warning tool for dengue management.

Analysis of Gene Expression in Aedes aegypti Suggests Changes in Early Genetic Control of Mosquito Development

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aedes aegypti, a critical vector for tropical diseases, poses significant challenges for studying its embryogenesis due to difficulties in removing its rigid chorion and achieving effective fixation for in situ hybridization. Here, we present novel methodologies for fixation, dechorionation, DAPI staining, and in situ hybridization, enabling ...

RNAi-Induced Gene Silencing against Chikungunya and COVID-19: What Have We Learned So Far, and What Is the Way Forward?

open access: yesViruses
RNA interference (RNAi) is a process in which small RNA molecules (such as small interfering RNAs or siRNAs) bind to specific messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to its degradation and inhibition of protein synthesis.

Dengue encephalitis

open access: yesIndian Journal of Critical Care Medicine, 2011
We report a case of dengue fever with features of encephalitis. The diagnosis of dengue was confirmed by the serum antibodies to dengue and the presence of a dengue antigen in the cerebrospinal fluid. This patient had characteristic magnetic resonance imaging brain findings, mainly involving the bilateral thalami, with hemorrhage.
