Pattern formation in binary fluid mixtures induced by short-range competing interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Molecular dynamics simulations and integral equation calculations of a simple equimolar mixture of diatomic molecules and monomers interacting via attractive and repulsive short-range potentials show the existence of pattern formation (microheterogeneity)

Analysis of depletion-region collection in GaInNAs solar cells [PDF]

open access: yesConference Record of the Thirty-first IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference, 2005., 2005
We provide qualitative insight into depletion-region collection in GaInNAs cells to (1) understand the effect of diffusion length L on the QE; and (2) describe the magnitude of L required to get adequate current from the cell. We use Wolf's equations for the QE including a drift field E, and model E as being equal to the junction built-in voltage ...

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Assessment of the Origin of a Plasma Depletion Band Over the United States During the 8 September 2017 Geomagnetic Storm

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The development of an intense total electron content (TEC) depletion band over the United States during the 8 September 2017 geomagnetic storm was understood as the extension of an equatorial plasma bubble (EPB) to midlatitudes in previous studies ...

Observed and simulated depletion layers with southward IMF [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2004
We present observations from the Polar satellite that confirm the existence of two types of depletion layers predicted under southward interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) conditions in magnetohydrodynamic simulations.

Tuning up the performance of GaAs-based solar cells by inelastic scattering on quantum dots and doping of AlyGa1-ySb type-II dots and AlxGa1-xAs spacers between dots

open access: yes, 2013
We used AlGaSb/AlGaAs material system for a theoretical study of photovoltaic performance of the proposed GaAs-based solar cell in which the type-II quantum dot (QDs) absorber is spatially separated from the depletion region.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Charging mechanism of electret film made of potassium-ion-doped SiO2

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2016
A charging model is proposed for an electret film made of potassium-ion-doped SiO2 that can be formed between the two opposing micro-electrodes of a micro-electrostatic actuator, separated by a microscopic gap.

Region-specific depletion of synaptic mitochondria in the brains of patients with Alzheimer’s disease

open access: yesActa Neuropathologica, 2018
Of all of the neuropathological changes observed in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the loss of synapses correlates most strongly with cognitive decline. The precise mechanisms of synapse degeneration in AD remain unclear, although strong evidence indicates ...

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.
