Deposition velocities of airborne microbe-carrying particles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The deposition velocity of airborne microbe-carrying particles (MCPs) falling towards surfaces was obtained experimentally in operating theatres and cleanrooms.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Specific muscle targeted delivery of miR-130a loaded lipid nanoparticles: a novel approach to inhibit lipid accumulation in skeletal muscle and obesity

open access: yesJournal of Nanobiotechnology
Background Skeletal muscle lipid deposition is a key manifestation of obesity, often accompanied by decreased exercise capacity and muscle atrophy. Skeletal muscle as the largest organ in the body, makes it challenges for designing targeted drug delivery

Leptin Promotes White Adipocyte Browning by Inhibiting the Hh Signaling Pathway

open access: yesCells, 2019
Leptin is an important secretory protein that regulates the body’s intake and energy consumption, and the functions of the Hh signaling pathway related to white adipocyte browning are controversial. It has been reported that leptin plays a critical

Deposition And Drying Dynamics Of Liquid Crystal Droplets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Drop drying and deposition phenomena reveal a rich interplay of fundamental science and engineering, give rise to fascinating everyday effects (coffee rings), and influence technologies ranging from printing to genotyping. Here we investigate evaporation

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Influences of welding speed on microstructure and mechanical properties of friction stir welded Al–Mg alloy with high Mg content

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2020
In this work, the influences of welding speed on microstructure and mechanical properties in friction stir welding (FSW) of the hot-rolled Al-9.2Mg-0.8Mn-0.2Zr-0.15Ti alloy plates has been investigated.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Atmospheric Conditions for Uplift and Dust Transport in the Latitudinal 10° North–20° North Band in Africa

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2022
Desert aerosols suspended in the atmosphere are a very marked fact in West Africa with estimates of 400 to 1000 million tons produced annually and concentrations exceeding 50 µg·m³ in Burkina.

Aqueous-Based Extrusion Fabrication of Ceramics on Demand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Aqueous-Based Extrusion Fabrication is an additive manufacturing technique that extrudes ceramic slurries of high solids loading layer by layer for part fabrication. The material reservoir in a previously developed system has been modified to allow for
