Callose deposition: a multifaceted plant defense response [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Callose deposition in Arabidopsis has emerged as a popular model system to quantify activity of plant immunity. However, there has been a noticeable rise in contradicting reports about the regulation of pathogen-induced callose.

Influence of deposition path strategy on residual stress and deformation in weaving wire-arc additive manufacturing of disc parts

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Deposition pattern and path-planning deposition strategy have significant impacts on the deformation and residual stress of components during a wire-arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) process. This work comparatively addressed the influence of weaving and

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

A Finite Element Study of Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing of Aluminum Alloy

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Analyses in the present work focus on understanding the influence of the WAAM (wire arc additive manufacturing) deposition pattern and travel speed on residual stress and warpage in aluminum alloy. The thermal profiles are analyzed using thermomechanical

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Large-scale additive manufacturing tooling for extrusion-compression molds

open access: yesAdditive Manufacturing Letters, 2021
Carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites (CFPC) have been used in additive manufacturing (AM) due to both the high-strength-to-weight and superior-stiffness-to-weight ratios. CF AM is being considered for tooling applications.

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

Influence of the Hanjiang River’s Inlet Sediment Decrease on Modern Sedimentation in the Underwater Delta

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
The Hanjiang River is the second-largest river in Guangdong Province, China. The modern sedimentation pattern of the Hanjiang subaqueous delta has been significantly affected by changes in the sediment delivered by the Hanjiang River.
