Derivative-free nonlinear optimization filter simplex [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, 2010
Derivative-free nonlinear optimization filter simplexThe filter method is a technique for solving nonlinear programming problems. The filter algorithm has two phases in each iteration. The first one reduces a measure of infeasibility, while in the second the objective function value is reduced.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Exploring the Direct and Indirect Use of ICT Measurements in DODME (Dynamic OD Matrix Estimation)

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
The estimation of the network traffic state, its likely short-term evolution, the prediction of the expected travel times in a network, and the role that mobility patterns play in transport modeling is usually based on dynamic traffic models, whose main ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Free-form optimization of shell structures for maximizing elastic buckling load

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2014
This paper presents a free-form optimization method for maximizing the elastic buckling load of a shell structure. A shell structure is assumed to be movable in the normal or the tangent direction to the surface for the shape optimization.

Fast Well Control Optimization with Two-Stage Proxy Modeling

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
Waterflooding is one of the methods used for increased hydrocarbon production. Waterflooding optimization can be computationally prohibitive if the reservoir model or the optimization problem is complex.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Non-parametric free-form optimization of shell structures for radiated noise reduction in open sound field

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2014
This paper describes a parameter-free free-form optimization method for reducing the radiated noise from vibrating shell structures in an open space. Squared sound pressure, which is evaluated by solving fully coupled shell-acoustic interaction system ...

A merit function approach for evolution strategies

open access: yesEURO Journal on Computational Optimization, 2021
In this paper, we extend a class of globally convergent evolution strategies to handle general constrained optimization problems. The proposed framework handles quantifiable relaxable constraints using a merit function approach combined with a specific ...
