A Derivative-Free Observability Analysis Method of Stochastic Power Systems
The observability analysis of a time-varying nonlinear dynamic model has recently attracted the attention of power engineers due to its vital role in power system dynamic state estimation.

This paper examines a calculus-based approach to building model functions in a derivative-free algorithm. This calculus-based approach can be used when the objective function considered is defined via more than one blackbox.

ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

Calibrating the GAMIL3-1° climate model using a derivative-free optimization method [PDF]
Parameterization in climate models often involves parameters that are poorly constrained by observations or theoretical understanding alone. Manual tuning by experts can be time-consuming, subjective, and prone to underestimating uncertainties. Automated

Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

On the semilocal convergence of derivative free methods for solving nonlinear equations
We introduce a Derivative Free Method (DFM) for solving nonlinear equations in a Banach space setting. We provide a semilocal convergence analysis for DFM using recurrence relations. Numerical examples validating our theoretical results are also provided

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Derivative free stochastic discrete gradient method with adaptive mutation
In data mining we come across many problems such as function optimization problem or parameter estimation problem for classifiers for which a good learning algorithm for searching is very much necessary.

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
