Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is a chronic, polymorphic, pruritic skin disease that develops mostly in patients with latent gluten-sensitive enteropathy. DH patients usually present with skin manifestations only and are not aware of the underlying small-bowel problems.

Before that only a few familial cases were reported (1–4), and several surveys of DH patients do not mention or did not find affected relatives (5–7).

Sulfasalazine and dermatitis herpetiformis
Australasian Journal of Dermatology, 2005SUMMARYDermatitis herpetiformis that is unable to be controlled using dapsone and a gluten‐free diet presents a therapeutic challenge. Three cases that responded well to sulfasalazine are presented. Two cases, who were unable to tolerate dapsone, had a rapid response to sulfasalazine, without apparent side‐effects.
