Desensitization of a balance with Langmuir binding of weights [PDF]
A balance is described with Langmuir binding of weights to each side. This simple physical system, when coupled with a previously derived equation for the equivalent displacement of weight that perturbs the equilibrium of a balance, models two-state, receptor systems in pharmacology for receptor activation.

Slippery Knowledge: Ignorance, Ecologies, and Environment in Endometriosis Framing
Abstract Despite a growing body of literature linking environmental toxins and endometriosis, environmental issues make only occasional appearances in public, patient, and specialist conversations about endometriosis. These conversations may hover at the edges of public discourse, but do not gain traction.

This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and the underlining mechanism of aspirin desensitization among patients with Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease (AERD). Thirty-eight patients, who had undergone an aspirin challenge test and were diagnosed as having AERD, were engaged in a double-blind randomized clinical trial.

A pre-peanut history of food allergy [PDF]
Since 1990, food allergy has become synonymous with anaphylactic reactions associated with shellfish, milk and, especially, peanut allergy. Rates of food allergy have mushroomed, contributing to changes in how food is produced, marketed and consumed ...

Mechanisms of enteric neuropathy in diverse contexts of gastrointestinal dysfunction
Abstract The enteric nervous system (ENS) commands moment‐to‐moment gut functions through integrative neurocircuitry housed in the gut wall. The functional continuity of ENS networks is disrupted in enteric neuropathies and contributes to major disturbances in normal gut activities including abnormal gut motility, secretions, pain, immune dysregulation,

Abstract Orthodontic therapy applies forces to teeth, causing an inflammatory reaction in the periodontal ligament. This is repaired by remodeling of the periodontium, allowing tooth displacement. Although orthodontic therapy is mostly initiated during childhood and adolescence, the number of adults seeking this treatment is increasing as our society's

An introduction to the immune network [PDF]
In this paper, after a telegraphic introduction to modern immunology, we present a simple model for the idiotypic network among antibodies and we study its relevance for the maintenance of immunological memory. We also consider the problem of computing the memory capacity of such a model.

Time-Triggered Reduced Desensitization Formulation For Solving Optimal Control Problems [PDF]
Fuel-optimal trajectories are inherently sensitive to variations in model parameters, such as propulsion system thrust magnitude. This inherent sensitivity can lead to dispersions in cost-functional values, when model parameters have uncertainties.
