In Defense of Desflurane: Is There a Specific Role for Desflurane in Neuroanesthesia?

open access: yesJournal of Neuroanaesthesiology and Critical Care
It is challenging to counter the widespread criticism of desflurane as the volatile anesthetic agent with the most significant greenhouse gas effect, one which is likely to exacerbate global warming.

Desflurane - Revisited

open access: yesJournal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology, 2012
The search for an ideal inhalational general anesthetic agent continues. Desflurane, which was recently introduced in the Indian market, possesses favorable pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties and is closer to the definition of an ideal agent. It offers the advantage of precise control over depth of anesthesia along with a rapid, predictable,

Desflurane in neurosurgery: Pros [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neuroanaesthesiology and Critical Care, 2017
AbstractNeurosurgery and neuroanaesthesia are making rapid progress, and with this progress, there is the search for excellence and ideal results. The practice of neuroanaesthesia is fairly standardised today, and any debate can only be on the fine-tuning aspects of the techniques.

Comparison of maintenance and emergence characteristics after desflurane or sevoflurane in outpatient anaesthesia

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2011
Both sevoflurane and desflurane have shorter emergence times compared to isoflurane based anaesthesia. Because of its pharmacological properties, desflurane appears to yield a rapid early and intermediate recovery compared with sevoflurane.

Aversion to Desflurane and Isoflurane in Sprague-Dawley Rats (Rattus norvegicus)

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
Carbon dioxide and isoflurane are widely used for killing rats, yet may not truly achieve “euthanasia”, because they elicit aversion. The inhalant anesthetic desflurane is faster acting than isoflurane, representing a potential refinement.

Comparison between cerebral state index and bispectral index during desflurane anesthesia [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology, 2018
Background Cerebral state index (CSI) is an anesthesia depth monitor alternative to bispectral index (BIS). Published comparative studies have used propofol or sevoflurane. However, studies using desflurane have not been reported yet.

Greenhouse gas reduction in anaesthesia practice: a departmental environmental strategy

open access: yesBMJ Open Quality, 2022
Sustainability interventions were implemented at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) following identification of inhaled anaesthetic gases as a target for reducing medical carbon emissions. This quality improvement study assessed and evaluated

Can thıamıne pyrophosphate prevent desflurane ınduced hepatotoxıcıty ın rats? [PDF]

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2016
PURPOSE : To investigate the effects of thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) against desflurane induced hepatotoxicity. METHODS : Thirty experimental animals were divided into groups as healthy (HG), desflurane control (DCG) , TPP and desflurane group (TDG). 20
