The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Analysis and experimental validation of a pressure control method using magneto-rheology fluid flows

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2018
In this study, a spool actuating mechanism using controlled pressure difference is proposed for a large hydraulic servo valve. The actuating mechanism is accomplished by tuning magneto-rheological (MR) fluid flow.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Innovative design tool for the optimization of blast-enhanced facade systems

open access: yesJournal of Facade Design and Engineering, 2015
In current blast enhancement design strategies, to resist the effects of an accidental explosion, a facade system is commonly designed to behave in-elastically and undergo large deformations. The large deformation of the facade system leads to high blast

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Feasibility study of an induction motor rim drive for an aircraft boundary-layer-ingestion fan

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
This study presents a feasibility study for an induction motor rim drive to power aircraft boundary-layer-ingestion (BLI) fans. The design is developed from a BLI-fan specification for traditional aircraft architecture: the rotor is fastened to the rim ...
