In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Supporting early robust design for different levels of specific design knowledge: an adaptive method for modeling with the Embodiment Function Relation and Tolerance model

open access: yesDesign Science
Early robust design (RD) can lead to significant cost savings in the later stages of product development. In order to design systems that are insensitive to various sources of deviation in the early stages, specific design knowledge (SDK) plays a crucial

Knowledge-Based Design

open access: yes, 2013
The chapter “Knowledge-Based Design”, covers the use of template models, integrated calculation and simulation procedures, and automated routines to support product design. Knowledge-based design enables the collection, storage and re-use of expert knowledge, as well as the subsequent integration of know-how into development processes.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

How do we know in design? Exploring knowledge and inquiry in architectural design

open access: yesJournal of Architecture and Urbanism
This paper examines the intricate relationship that exists between the field of architecture and the role that research can play in it, by describing how this relationship has manifested itself in academic environments over the past two decades.

The interior design of [free] knowledge [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cultural Economy, 2014
What would a ‘free knowledge bank’ look like if it were to be designed as an architectural object? The challenge was posed by El Ranchito, a curatorial project based at Madrid’s contemporary art centre, Matadero, to the art and architectural collective Zoohaus in 2011.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
