Steroids, 1974Abstract Desmosteryl sulfate composes 95% of the sterol sulfate fraction of hamster epididymal spermatozoa at a level of 10 mg/g dry weight. Desmosterol represents as much as 40% of the free sterol fraction of these cells. Only cholesterol was detected in the free sterol fraction from plasma and liver of the same animals.

Solubility of Desmosterol in Five Organic Solvents
Journal of Chemical & Engineering Data, 2008The solubilities of desmosterol in methanol, ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, and acetonitrile were measured. The solubilities of desmosterol in these solvents increased with temperature and varied greatly with the solvent from a minimum of 0.1151 mol·L−1 in acetonitrile at 300.8 K to a maximum of 1.102 mol·L−1 in ethyl acetate at 332.8 K.

Steroids, 1977A new synthesis of desmosterol was described using hyodeoxycholic acid (3alpha,6alpha-dihydroxy-5beta-cholanic acid) as a starting material. Epidesmosterol (3alpha-hydroxycholesta-5,24-diene) was also synthesized for the first time from the same starting material.
